you have going into the season?
1.) I don't know what it is, and I'm not a Doug Free fan by any means but I have a feeling that he will return to Pro-Bowl form this year. He took his pay cut, and has hopefully realized that we expect a better effort from him week in and week out. I'm looking for him to bounce back.
b.) We will have a top ten defense this season. (which isn't too farfetched considering they played pretty good when briefly healthy) I think with this switch back to the 4-3 and Ware's and Spence's move to defensive end is going to be major. I love that DWare will be able to focus on dominating QB's full time, and I look for his numbers to go back up (not that they were bad) If this team can stay away from the amount of injuries as last year, especially on the defensive side I think we've got something good. Carr and Church will be around, added with Mo - the secondary is starting to come together imo and with the new D-coordinator I'm expecting the turnovers to increase. We've needed to develop some ball-hawks for as long as I can remember and Kiffin just may be the guy to get the job done. I like this defense.
c.) Dez Bryant is going to lead the league in rec. yards. As much as Tony targeted him in the second half last season, and with the addition of Williams and switching to two te sets, I think Dez will only thrive more. Of course, having DeMarco on the field would greatly help this team (as a whole) as well - teams wouldn't be able to zone us for entire games and when they are forced to go man, good luck with Dez Bryant.
I feel like I had more to say but I've kind of hit a road-block. Any thoughts on mine, or predictions/gut feelings of your own?

Gut feeling, the line is serviceable and Romo has an on year. Big yardage numbers and a lot of big plays.

really that is all our line had to be......

People dont give credit where it's due.... but Romo (as bad as our line is) makes it look better than it is... decent line Romo breaks records....

That said .... running game and defense win post season.... records mean shit....... Romo isnt going to put the team on his back

Well, I think the multiple TE sets won't be too bad. I think Smith will have a good year. I think Carter will shine too. I think Frederick will be just fine at C.

I have plenty of negative thoughts I'll keep to myself.

Theres a lot here to talk about. I'll address the Free angle. I don't think he will return to Pro Bowl form but then again he doesn't have to. Just him improving as little as 10 - 15%, along with Frederick making the C better and Smith gaining experience now in his 3rd year should make the line serviceable. If Livings can be the same guy as last season and we get better production by whoever mans the other G spot we shouldn't have too many complaints about the OL. If the line improves and Romo still has issues I guess I'd have to stop being a Romo Lover.

Dez and Witten will get theirs, let Miles return to form along with the multi TE sets and I see points in bunches from this team. I really have no idea how the running game will look without a FB. I can only assume they will do the majority of their running plays out of the multi TE sets and delayed draws.

Far as much as I like Romo that is one thing I don't think can do. Put the team on his back. Roger and Troy could, I haven't seen it from Romo yet. He needs the other guys to do their jobs.

I think the line is going to look like this

Smith Leary Fredrick Waters Free

Free needs to step up and have a solid season like manster said if he can have 1/2 the probowl season we will be much improved

Dez should be a Monster along with a improved running game I think the offense will be fine

The defense looked much better and if they can stay healthy kiffins defense should be way better than we have had for a long time

I am not looking through the BLUE glasses but Im kinda excited for this year

cautious but optimistic

I agree with you in that Doug Free and the O-line will play a lot better, especially if they stay healthy. Last year was awful and I agree with Manster that any improvement from free will be a big help. With Frederick, a healthy O-line and a solid commitment to the running game and I really love our offense. A lot of talent at the skill positions.
I think you have Dez rated a bit high though. I think Dez and Witten will draw a lot of attention and most of the double coverages and if Miles Austin is healthy, and stays healthy, will have the big year as a receiver.
As much as I love our linebackers and secondary, I hate our D-line and have no faith in it at this point. I still feel the play of our D-line will determine whether we are a playoff team or not.

I am gonna address the defense.
I think this defense Gels much faster than a lot of the so called experts think. Think the 4-3 defense plays into this personnels strengths more than the 3-4.
Now two things I have wanted for our defense for many years. To go back to a 4-3 defense (never wanted us to change to the 3-4 actually) & to play more press coverage & man to man. I read an article earlier this offseason Where Carr was talking of what to expect from this defense. He was talking they might be put in press or man to man coverage all game long. Now if the CBs can handle this it will be huge. All the top defenses back in the day were like that The eagles Jim Johnson defense comes to mind. let our DBs get a bit physical & get on Dl some pressure & we are gold. I think we will be a good defense this year as long as our DTs can hold their own. (again this is barring major injuries)

I agree, and will go so far as to say barring major injuries, this could be a top 5 Defense. I think Hatcher and Church are going to be far better than a lot of people think, Ware and Spencer will be terrors off the end, and our LB's and Corners are outstanding. I think W Allen wins the other safety job and has a solid, if unspectacular year. It should be our turn to stay healthy

Safety? Coaching?

I think Church is okay. Other than Barry, I think S is still up in the air, and I'm not feeling great about it.

In regards to coaching, their red zone offense still concerns me. I'm also confused why they needed to take a TO early last night if relaying plays is no longer a problem for the offense. That's something to keep an eye on.

I have numerous concerns elsewhere, but if I post them all, you'll probably think I'm trolling.

My gut feelings:

Defensive line will be less of a problem than safety play.

Penalties will continue to be a problem from the offensive line unless they clean up this pre-snap chaos.

Redzone issues will continue.

If we make the playoffs, it will be because we forced 30+ turnovers.

not many but I do think the D will be much better due to coaching.

still many questions but there should be at this time

I'll be the negativeCreep now:
My gut is feeling that DeMarco will not be able to stay healthy and we'll be forced to use one of the young(er) guys and whichever one it is, will not pan out. I think we've got a very shaky backfield and I just cannot see Murray playing 16.

I'm also feeling that we will continue to have the same ol pre snap troubles. Either not getting the ball snapped in time or false starts. imo, that is all a reflection of our HC and he is back for another year. Too many delay of games last year and the year before, I haven't seen Garrett address the problem head on and I look for this to continue.

If Murray does stay healthy, not having a fullback is going to severely hurt our running game. Ask a Moose if you don't believe me. DeMarco can make plays on his own, true, but if we're forced to go to one of the others our run game will be sub-par. Having a fullback is more important to me than an unneccesary te. I hope one of ours is able to play FB when needed.

I'm not impressed by our safety's and I look for that to be the weak spot on our defense and teams will take advantage. Tackling is another issue, especially with our DB's. They need to be hitting people every day in practice to improve on this.

I'm a little hopeful for Dunbar. We heard good things about him in camp, and he's looked solid this preseason. Stack that on top of some of the potential that was evident there last season, and I think it's very possible he'll be there when Murray can't be. My greater concern is that their OGs and RT won't perform well enough for any Dallas back to consistently be a threat, and you can't run the draw 25-35 times a game.

Good point about the fullback. There have been some good ones out there to be had lately and we didnt even sniff. With the commitment to get more balance in the running game, it seems like it would have been a good move
