I'll be the negativeCreep now:
My gut is feeling that DeMarco will not be able to stay healthy and we'll be forced to use one of the young(er) guys and whichever one it is, will not pan out. I think we've got a very shaky backfield and I just cannot see Murray playing 16.

I'm also feeling that we will continue to have the same ol pre snap troubles. Either not getting the ball snapped in time or false starts. imo, that is all a reflection of our HC and he is back for another year. Too many delay of games last year and the year before, I haven't seen Garrett address the problem head on and I look for this to continue.

If Murray does stay healthy, not having a fullback is going to severely hurt our running game. Ask a Moose if you don't believe me. DeMarco can make plays on his own, true, but if we're forced to go to one of the others our run game will be sub-par. Having a fullback is more important to me than an unneccesary te. I hope one of ours is able to play FB when needed.

I'm not impressed by our safety's and I look for that to be the weak spot on our defense and teams will take advantage. Tackling is another issue, especially with our DB's. They need to be hitting people every day in practice to improve on this.

As much as I want to disagree with you about everything, I really can't. You make some good points and I kind of feel the same way. But I do disagree with you about it being a reflection on Garrett. I think it's a reflection on Romo. After all these years of seeing the same thing (with three different head coaches), at some point we have to start putting it on Romo for the penalties and the chaos of the offense. Garrett has certainly played his role, but so has Romo.

I almost totally agree with you. I do think the Offense will play better but like you, I am concerned about penalties and lack of discipline on this team on both sides of the trenches. Been going on for way too many years now. I only disagree with you in that I think our weakness is in the D-line. Not enough pressure or sacks, can't stop the run, bad tackling, lack discipline, too many stupid penalties on 3ird downs and lack of turnovers. D-line gives to much time for Qb's to find open receivers. Yet many here blame the secondary.

It's been horrible tackling in every game I've watched so far. I guess the players union managing practice with pads and hitting to every 3rd Thursday is really paying off on fundamentals.

true. tackling as a whole in the NFL has gotten worse since keeping the players from practicing in pads as much.

There has to be accountability for the lack of discipline and penalties. The defense is just as horrendous as Romo and the O-line when it comes to penalties, especially on 3ird down. And don't forget our wonderful special teams giving up field position and T.D.'s costing us games like they did vs. Ravens and Redskins.

I think there is too much of a panic mode going on.

It was the first preseason game for the majority of the starters.

And considering our injury issues last year.... I'm surprised any of you guys want our guys going all out in preseason. Especially in the FIRST preseason game for most.

I give two shits less about the preseason except for injuries and rookies

None of the Cowboys Superbowl teams in the 90s did shit in the preseason. Hell I remember being swept in the preseason and winning the Superbowl with that team.

All very true. But just think, even when Parcells was here and accountability was at its highest, we still had those type of problems with penalties and boneheaded play at the worst times. I really don't know what to say. Players just aren't as mentally tough and football sound as they used to be. I guess playing for the Cowboys now is just too much to handle when you consider how big social media is and the media in general nowadays. It's a lot of pressure on these players to live up to this franchise's past. I think it has shown for the last decade. I've said this plenty of times this offseason, the Cowboys need more players like Sean Lee. Players who aren't afraid to play in the limelight. Players who are dedicated 100% to football. Players who live in the film room. Players who don't let the star on the helmet affect them in any way.

I just really believe the star on the helmet has gotten too big for the players, especially in this era where players are more sensitive, make more money, and are subjected to much more criticism.

Is anyone honestly in panic mode?

This actually feels like the same song and dance for at least 3 years in a row if not longer now. I have some doubts that many here had Super Bowl dreams heading into the preseason, only to have them crushed by the Raiders.

Seems to be a little by a few.
Like I said the only thing I even worry about during preseason is injuries and I like getting a look at the rookies.

Other than that.... preseason does nada for me til th last preseason game when the starters play a full half.

Common Sense. Let's see how they look against the Bengals in two weeks.

I thought they only play a half in the 3rd preseason game, which happens to be the Cowboys 4th game out of 5 this year.

Either way, I think you can only take so much away from any of these games.

Unless they look real bad or have a real young team.... Most teams dont play their starters for a full half til the final preseason game.

and actually then ... Say you put your starters on the field ... 2 possessions they drive the field and score.... They dont stay in the whole half even in that game..... It's just the likely game to see them play a full half.

Preseason is more about who is on the bubble of being cut and who isnt as far as the team is concerned once the starters come out. .... well let me change that ... after the starters come out they judge depth.... After that its more to see who stays on the roster who is cut and who goes to the practice squad....

The game before last is the dress rehearsal not the last game, no starters will play in the last game.....

Yes the starters will only play the 1st half of the 3rd game, but they will play it more as a reg season game and not some vanilla bull shit, as it is looked at as the dress rehearsal. Teams have had the starters play past the half if they looked like shit all preseason.

After reading your post on another thread, I honestly cannot disagree with you either. I thought that as soon as I read it (after I posted this) It IS a reflection of our quarterback as well. Tony is as much to blame for our pre-snap troubles as Jason is. But he is the head coach, and it should be his problem. I want to see him address this head on and make a public statment that this will not continue, but he hasn't. He kind of references it when it's noticeable in games, but I don't take him seriously (that he's as pissed as we are) By no means is this a one-man problem imo, I just think Romo's too big for Garrett, especially after this past season. There's a lack of respect imo which you can't have to be successful. I don't know what's really going on, these are all assumptions - but that's the feeling I get. Anyways, I'm fully with you on the : Romo waiting till the last second to snap the ball. I wish he would knock that shit off AND forget how to shovel. I would really like to see this group work.

Well, tackling in the NFL is a thing of the past - for every team. We're on a one-way path to no helmets and flags on the waist(s) The game is soo watered down today it's kind of a joke. I would honestly be shocked if we EVER see another 6-3 game. goodell wants 50 points a piece per team per game and he only caters to offensive players. It's becoming unwatchable - more and more every year. And the really fucked up thing is, it's not like we can go back. We're in too deep. imo the nFl will be today's MLB in 10 years - a thing of the past. Don't get me wrong, I watch every Cowboy game I can, but I do not and will not ever enjoy the rest of the games as much as I used to. It's sickening.

That would only be true if I had ever watched a pre-season game in my life (I don't) - and am purely speaking off of what I read and what I saw last season. I don't read anything into pre-season football, this I can guarantee. I didn't watch any of the dolphins or raider game and I don't plan on watching the other three. My thoughts are strictly an opinion of a tired fan.
