Reports are you could hear him yelling from outside in the hallway. Said they weren't focused all week.

Jay Gruden Blasted His Team Following Loss To Cardinals | The Big Lead
via http://ble.ac/teamstream-

Yeah, I heard about this watching the post-game live show on Comcast. What I'm sure we're all hoping for is a positive response from the players. Hard to tell if that WILL be the response until later this week when reports from practice come out. Gruden has been described as a "Player's coach" and until now had no reason to blast his team in this way. Now that they have seen another side of him, that title might be at jeopardy or greatly enhanced. Stay tuned!!

He must have sensed all week that the players didn't understand the urgency of their situation. I never had us winning this game but we sure could of used it.

Tampa winning today has us on the outside looking in right now. I hope the team isn't looking at the schedules like we are and chocking up losses for other teams. Any given Sunday. That's this league, and that's a dangerous game to play.

Now if we lose to Philly, that's when I'll hit the panic button. Baker and RJF disrespected the Eagles after the first game. They will be looking to save what's left of their season Sunday just like Arizona did.

I think Gruden's tirade was more about getting them up for the Eagles game than what happened today. That's a good Cardinals team they played today.

The entire team laid and egg and played like shit. They should have been yelled out. They should have been reminded if you want to be here than show that you want to be here. I have seen guys on our Oline get pushed back before but not like yesterday. It wasn't just one time either.

Is not bruising Trent's ego by asking him to play LG for four games more important than missing the playoffs?

I tell him that you are a team captain and this is what we need from you right now. We'll get a LG in here next year and move you back to LT, but right now Lauvao is killing us, Kujo obviously isn't much better, so show some leadership, line up in between Nsekhe and Long, and let's go maul some people and be the team nobody want to play heading into the playoffs.

It was a bad match.up for us. Arizona has the number 1 defense, a top notch rb, big, physical receivers, were at home, and we're desperate.

Tough loss, but we were 2.5 point underdogs, and rightfully so. We didn't have Reed, but they didn't have their best player either in Mathieu.

Did Barry make a similar speech to his defense? Honestly what does this guy do? I read posts here that state that he can't be blamed since he doesn't have adequate talent. OK - so what exactly is his role and what are his strengths?

Game day planning? Don't think so. Player development? Doesn't look like it. Motivating players? That seems laughable. Great track record? That has been suspect for a while. Honestly - I probably am missing something. Someone please help me & tell me exactly why this coach is still at the helm & what he brings to the table. I hope to be educated & to possibly laugh at this down the road when this guy morphs into a good/very good coach (perhaps w/ more talent).

Reed will be out another week I believe. The lost yesterday does not surprise me one bit. Swiss cheese Def and a OC who is very impatient with the RG. The game vs Philly will be another close game and it wouldn't surprise me if we choked again. Now you watch how Wentz march up and down the field against our Def, just watch. What is the problem with our Def. Is it coaching, lack of talent or both. I said both.

SoCal, I was one that said it was tough to evaluate him since there is a dearth of talent on defense. But don't mistake this as saying I think he is a good coach. I honestly dont know. But given his track record, one needs to be suspicious. He was by no means my choice for DC, not even in the top 10. But I'm not sure that a proven DC could get much more out of this group. When our front seven gets pushed back regularly and can't stop anyone from running the ball and our safeties have no ability to range from sideline to sideline to break up passes, that is just execution, not coaching. So this can be my only rationale as to why he is still the DC.

Yep. Certainly even a relatively minor influx of talent might do wonders for this team & improve the play of some of the existing players. I guess that my biggest concern is in player development & two players in particular - Breeland and P. Smith. Both appear to be regressing when they both appeared to be two of the stars of the future for this team. Perhaps some of this is injury related or just falls on the players. However - I just keep thinking that perhaps another coach could get more out of players like this. Maybe I am wrong.

I really believe we are in no position to judge, we think we know X's and O's but we really don't. So like j_y I reserve judgment on our DC until he has players not named Mason Foster. But I tell you what, the criticism of the OC regarding the run game and the insistence on throwing the fade when it has never worked has me thinking maybe the fans do know something.

Agree about the fade. In terms of the defense - I never claim to be an expert. I am just asking for everyone's opinion about exactly what Barry brings to the table especially since there were concerns when he was hired & there does not appear to be much evidence in his favor during his tenure with the Redskins. If it is simply a matter of talent then it should not matter who is the coach, but obviously the coach has some effect on the team.

Barry refuses to bring pressure on 3rd down and that is why everyone coverts 3rd downs against us. He just doesn't blitz. How many 3rd and longs did Ari convert yesterday? Unacceptable. Its been happening all year. The times he did blitz with Norman we got off the field.

Im not saying we have great talent but its decent enough to get off the field in key situations. Its as simple as this if we don't make the playoffs Barry is gone. If we do he stays but it is on the hot seat.

Yep agree & I have heard similar feedback from others. During many games even if they get burned by the blitz why not try it since the other team is moving down the field anyhow. I don't think that I am alone is stating that I would almost rather see the Redskins defense in a 3rd and 1 situation as opposed to a 3rd and 12 situation. They almost always give up a 1st down or worse during the latter.

Having said this, yes, we should blitz the shit out of the Eagles next week, over and over and over. What can it hurt? We give up 3rd & long almost all the time with no pressure in our zone coverage scheme. And for the love of God, remove the slow fat DL on 3rd & anything over 10 yards and bring in more speed on those downs! Any idiot can see that not only is a 4 man rush not going to be effective, guys like Baker and others need to be OFF the field in these situations. You have (2) guys to contain yesterday (Johnson & Fitz) and really did a poor job on both as well. Is that personnel or coaching? I say a combination of both was evident yesterday.

One point of clarification. While I agree with you that some of our young guys haven't developed as we would expect, that is the responsibility of the position coaches, not directly the DC. SO while Barry may suck, we can't directly blame him for player development. Of course indirectly everything that happens on the D is his responsibility.

We have an immense lack of athleticism in the middle of the defense. It is very hard to gauge anything based on that.
