Goodell Says Deflategate Ruling May Come Next Week

Roger Goodell spoke with Julia Borstein of CNBC yesterday while attending a Tech/Media Conference. He told her that a ruling on Tom Brady's appeal will be released very soon, possibly as soon as next week.

Timing couldn't be better. Two weeks before training camp opens. Motions should be heard about the time the season starts or the trial might be set for for the start of the season. Either way, Brady will play in the opener against the Steelers.

Then again, Goodell might shock the world and revoke the suspension.

OK, Greg Hardy beats the shit out of his girlfriend, not once, not twice but multiple times. Cracks her head on a toilet bowl. Nearly crushes her windpipe and leaves marks on her neck. Picks her up and throws her on a futon that has five loaded military assault rifles and misc. pistols. Found guilty in a court of law.

10 Game suspension is reduced to 4 by arbitrator Harold Henderson.

Tom Brady is accused, not proven guilty, of possibly knowing that someone might have fudged a football. Refuses to give up his cell phone and is suspended for 4 games.

Goodell refuses to allow anyone else to hear Brady's appeal.

If I hear the word "Integrity" associated with the NFL one more time I swear.......

The Hardy thing shocked me. Roger has no clue WTF he is doing. If you reduced Hardy to 4 games for what he was accused of, then you have to let Brady go. I am still in the minority where I think he sticks TB with 4 games, why?? Because that is what other owners and fans want. They could care less about Hardy. This is about to get very, very ugly for Roger when he makes his decision.

Hardy was not accused of anything. He was convicted in a court of law for assault and Domestic Violence.
He's not in jail because his girlfriend was willing to drop all charges for cash. Undisclosed, of course.

Goodell didn't reduce Hardy's suspension, an arbitrator did. This is exactly why Goodell thought he wanted to hear this appeal.....

This is what is going to end up hurting Goodell more if it goes to court. Goodell not allowing a neutral arbitrator is going to look even more heavy-handed by Goodell. He has painted himself into a corner.....

Now the NFL Media's Bert Breer is saying that Goodell thinks that Brady will just accept anything once training camp starts. What this says to me is that Goodell will try anything to stay out of court. My guess is that he cuts the suspension to one gameand hopes that Brady will "just go away" and he and Ted Wells won't be called to defend.

Goodell tends to forget that there's a third party, the NFLPA who has a hand in this and while the NFL is worried about Brady, the union may not back off. Brady isn't your average run of the mill 5 years and done type player. This is a 15 year veteran who hold all QB records for the Super Bowl, has been a Super Bowl MVP three times, NFL MVP twice and is revered in New England. He has no reason to accept anything.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will eventually make a ruling on Tom Brady's appeal of his four-game suspension for his role in Deflategate.

It remains to be seen when that decision will actually come. For the NFL, it's best to hold onto that decision until the end of July, according to NFL Media's Bert Breer.

"I think it will come out the first week of training camp," Breer said. "That puts Brady in a tough position if it goes down that way because now all of a sudden he’s in football mode, he's going out there every day trying to focus on the season and he has a big decision to make as far as a lawsuit. If you want to put together a conspiracy theory and say what's most beneficial to the league, the chances of facing a lawsuit probably go down once he puts that helmet and shoulder pads on."
