Yeah, someday I will have to ditch this set completely, and get fitted. But I don't like the idea of hitting cavities. they just don't feel right.

I do this with every stroke

Hahah, yeah, loved that guy, except for his mugging in Happy Gilmore. I've hit mine off a tee at the range, but it's so hard to hit it consistently. It's actually an Apex "Channel-back," was an early edition of the modern cavity backs:

My 2-Iron is a Bounce Sole Hogan muscleback:

Same, Fam. I loved Hogan's books and his swing style, I knew I wanted a set of his and this was the first one I came across. I know there are more modern clubs that bear his name, but I really wanted blades. Like I said above, I know I will need to get a completely modern set one day. My son is getting ready for his first full set/fitting, so mine will have to wait a few more years.

I think I used my 1-iron off the tee for maybe 1 year and I don't recall exactly why. I was probably struggling with my driver, tried it and hit it well. But that didn't last long and the couple of times I tried hitting it off the turf rendered predictably awful results.

breaking 80 by someone that cant hit over 200 on any hit, then we are likely talking pitch and putt
I have a very good friend, smaller in stature, who gave up on the idea of hitting long drives. He almost always keeps them in the fairway, even though they rarely go more than 170-180 yards. He is rarely on a par 4 green in regulation. But, he can chip and putt like a madman. A few years ago he shot a 77 by one-putting about 5 greens.

the problem with golf... people think it is a hard sport... it is not...

the problem is that you compare yourself with the bests.... its the only sport that we do this... each hole is measured by pars( what you should get) but that you is not you... it is the person that is actually good at golf...

i mean, scratch golfer is basically a professional...

If you never break 80, chances are that distance is not your biggest problem. But 80 is damned good for the average golfer, most of whom probably rarely break 100 if they're counting everything.

sure... but that was probably his best game of his life... if you cant hit any club over 200, then you basically have to play a perfect game just to play bogey golf...

True, but he focused his energies on what he could change.

Nah .. I shot an 84 a couple of weeks ago using my 4 wood off the tee which goes maybe 200 if I nail it. It was a good round, but breaking 90 isn't unusual for me.

How often can he expect that?

Nothing wrong with moving up to a set of tees that suit your game.
Heck yeah. When I play upstate on vacation, I use the forward tees. This game is frustrating enough
