Lost in all of this: James Neal is 100% concussed. May have lost consciousness and definitely asked "what happened?" to CStew when he was tending to him. Wobbly to the max down the runway as well. Here's to a week long recovery and not a month long...

I mean, if I were a coach I'd hate that. I'm trying to remain neutral as a fan, but...you can clearly see Del Zotto look over his shoulder and throw his elbows back. He intentionally did that, but you can't say he intended to hit him in the head. He was trying to give himself space. Regardless, it brings up the idea of a few minutes for head contact, regardless of intent. If it's a penalty for high sticking someone unintentionally, even when the other player brings it into their own face, why isn't it for an elbow to the face? If you have to be in charge of your stick, shouldn't you have to be in charge of your elbows? They're just as dangerous. I know that's something Sid harped on a lot after his injury...make all contact to the head illegal, players will have to be more responsible, and there's less onus on the refs to determine intent.

Yeah, I definitely think it was a bit of a careless move. He throws his arm up to hit / impede Neal, but I don't think he intended the damage.

I don't care much about the discipline, just hope this is one of those "one week" concussions.

1000000% accurate. First off: zero respect for the act. Giving a guy a slash is meh...doing it from the bench is pure wussery. Following that up by not confronting the guy you did it to and allowing two (smaller) teammates to stand in between you? You don't deserve to be in hockey...except you have a crazy good shot. Still, imagine any other high profile player doing this and what the reaction would be. The hockey world would implode if Cooke did it. Cooke was his usual annoying self last night in that he got to the Rags, so I understand...but dang nabbit, stick around for the repurcussions.
