i know, i know...the cap is being diagnosed by the finest the Ivy leagues have to offer in an effort to fix the cap. however, what are possible FA's the cowboys should target? obviously not any of the high priced ones.......

I like the idea of the WR from SD coming off a surgery. His name is Danario Alexander I think. He has had flashes. I love Beasley and like Williams, but if we lose Miles which we most likely will, we need someone else.

I think these are the type of guys we are going to have to go after. Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle with some. The only big name I see us even dabbling with is Hardy.

no way he leaves carolina! and how in the world could the cowboys even afford him without extending their reign of cap hell for a couple of seasons?

I said dabble. I didnt say make it there number 1 objective. A lot of players loved the Dallas Cowboys growing up. In todays world that doesnt account for a lot, but any little thing may help. Chances of getting him - less than 5 percent

We will probably be looking at borderline starter type guys that are willing to come here as a backup or fight for a job and get paid like a backup. We could really use those at any position. I would be looking at the same spots we need to be drafting OL, DL, S, CB. I don't think we go this route at LB since we already have a couple here that are in that category. Maybe a cheapo FB to battle Clutts? I liked what I saw of him, but how much of him did we really see? As far as WR go, I don't see a veteran. I think we may use a late draft pick, will certainly bring in some UFDAs and maybe sometime after the draft and after 6/1 we take a look at a really cheap guys that can also play STs

I'm not sure why anyone thinks we need to do anything special to replace Miles Austin. He was replaced this past season by Terrence Williams, the kid did a fine job and will only get better. Outside of the first Giants game, Austin wasn't worth a fuck, and this offense was still the 3rd highest scoring team in the league.

If Dallas spends another pick on a receiver this year, I quit. Too many positions need a depth upgrade for Jerry to spend another pick on WR. We have four very capable receivers, who all compliment each other pretty well. A draft pick on another WR would be a waste. I mean is this team ever going to give Dwayne Harris a real chance in the offense? Beasley and Williams leap frogged Harris on the depth chart through no fault of his own. Harris makes plays and needs to be given more opportunities to do so.

We don't need to replace Miles as a #2, but we need another WR on the roster. Williams will move to #2, Beasley will move to #3 and Harrris will likely move to #4 or will lose the battle to someone not currently on the roster. Competition is always good and Harris will need to earn his plays on offense like Beasley and Williams have. The team seems to use a pick on WR almost every year recently so I'd assume they do it again if Miles is gone. Don't get hung up on what you perceive as need positions when picking in the 5th + rounds. You aren't likeyly to get starters there. You take the BPA and hope he makes the roster and helps the team now or in the future. We will also likely be saying good bye to McCray this year, so special teams help is going to be needed.

I agree with your rationale 100% as it pertains to the draft. But Jerry has left this team, more specifically this defense, in such a state that it is crucially important to reload the depth on the defensive side of the ball. They should have made more of an effort to do it last year, but ended up taking four offensive players in last years draft. I would like a G in the 3rd round and a developemental QB in the 4th or later, but this draft should be predicated on the defense. They should not be looking at another offensive skill player in the draft IMO. Especially when you take into account what a disaster the 2012 draft turned out to be for Dallas. The Cowboys can fill the 5th receiver slot with a retread or an UDFA. The guy hardly will see the field anyway if Escobar is even half the player they hope.

As for Harris having to earn his chance "like Beasley and Williams" - what did those two do that Harris didn't? Seems to me that Harris makes the most of his limited opportunities, meanwhile Williams was handed the 3rd receiver slot before training camp even started last year. And then for some reason Beasley jumped him too. I'm not knocking Williams or Beasley, I love what they both bring to the table. But why hasn't Harris been given more opportunity? He had a tough rookie year but turned it on in his second year. He was worthy of a Pro Bowl this year. Harris is deserving of more opportunities in the offense.

I think we need to have another year of waiting to see who doesn't sign and might be looking for a one year contract on the defensive side. The offense looks like we have enough parts, but we need help on defense.

I'd rather not "create" room by restructuring money into the future just to go after a FA, honestly.

We will target FA linebackers and defensive ends in October after Lee and Ware go on IR. We will draft a receiver and TE in rounds 2 and 3.

Produce. At some point we stop blaming others for holding players back. Why can't we assume that Williams and Beasley beat out Harris for those opportunities? Either way they both were very impressive when put on the field, so whatever the reason for them playiing over Harris was, it was the right decision IMO.

2012 Draft: IMO we will all be happy with Claiborne a year from now if he stays healthy, has a full offseason to learn the defense (possibly his 3rd in 3 years?) and is used correctly. Crawford should play a big role on our defense next year (probably going to start) and Wilbur may be our starting SOLB. Don't be shocked if Carter is on the bench and Wilbur and Hollowman start. So I don't think we are going to be too critical of the 2012 draft after next season. HOWEVER...as of today I can certainly see your concern and it's a lot easier to defend your opinion on it than mine with facts. Give me year 3 and let's see if it changes.

I don't make internet bets, but I'm willing to make a bet with no stakes other than our opinions and credibility that we don't take a TE in round 2 or 3

Harris was a beast on special teams and has looked good at wideout in the past. I think the entire receiving corp gets better with Austins absence. I really like the collection of players we have at wr. Austin would not be worth the league minimum because he can't stay on the field

I won't pretend that I know what goes on in practice, so I can't say if Williams and Beasley outplay Harris during the week in practice. And I can't say for sure if Harris has as good of a grasp on the playbook as Williams or Beasley either. But I know when Harris touches the ball on Sunday, good things usually happen. He received a whopping 14 targets this year, though.

The 2012 draft has been a bit of a disappointment, but I admit that class can still turn it around. I'm not sold on Claiborne at all. He was not used properly this year, I agree, but this kid has not shown much in the two years he has been here. I am still waiting for that "WOW!" moment from him. I expect big plays from a #6 pick, and we are all still waiting. I think he is soft as tissue paper, and will remain that way. Does he have skill? Sure, but he has trouble staying on the field (where have you heard that before in regards to this defense?). IMO his attitude is lacking too.

Tyrone Crawford, should be able to contribute this year. I think he will be fine, and just caught some bad luck.

Devonte Holloman looks like a player to me. I love that pick. And Holloman is exactly the kind of guy Dallas needs to be drafting in the 5th, 6th and 7th. Not another WR.

Nothing....just the opportunity was greater. EVERYTIME Harris gets an opportunity, he produces...like the winning TD against Minny this past season.

Dallas's biggest problem remains they define players at the start and it takes injuries to change that line of thinking. HUGE problem with jerry and his band of merry coaches
