They can have him. I would take him on a cheap hometown discount price of around $8M for a one year deal letting him try and rebuild his value, but no more than that. His best days are behind him.

If I'm Timmy I take the 1 year/$14 million from the Giants and try to get back to where he was in the past - 14 million is a lot of money and he might not get that per year with a bigger contract

I think the 1 year $14m deal is actually very generous considering the 2 year stretch he is coming off of.

In his last 65 starts he has an ERA of 4.76. Not very often you see a guy with that kind of stat line receive a yearly deal of $14m.

I would like to see him here but not if he expects to receive $14m per season.

If he is willing to lower the annual salary in exchange for extra years then I wouldn't mind it, but it appears his asking price is way too high.

I'd give him a 2 year deal for $16m ($8m per season) but even that is stretching it and mostly based on his amazing 4 year run and possible upside.

Even if Timmy has had two down years, don't be surprised if he does get another offer. Pitching is at a premium, I still think Timmy can turn it around as he changes his approach

we'll see

I'd agree they Cy years are behind him, but not the possibility of Timmy being an effective #2
he's worked on changing his approach he'll continue to work at it, he's smart....and as I just stated, pitching is at a premium

On the subject of pitching, nearly anytime a "name" gets signed even if it's a #4 or 5, we all seem to gasp at the deals.
In my opinion, we can hold our gasps,
this is the new market for pitching...if GM's don't want a part of it, they'll have to grow their own and that's tough buisness

I agree. I would even be open to giving him $10M a year for a couple season. Thing is Lincecum will get over $10m no matter where he lands.

I would rather have Lincecum on the team than Saunders. Saunders has a 2014 option worth $8.3 mil. I believe Lincecum is more valuable than Saunders despite Lincecum's last 2 seasons.

I agree Timmy will get 8 figures per year, but I just hope it is not from us. I have a feeling it might be because there is nothing M's upper management loves more than hometown kids to bring the fans in. He would be a great fit next year with Washington legalizing weed and all.

I have the same feeling. This feels like a perfect match for the upper management. The way it will work is he will actually get the most money from the Mariners. It will be the opposite of a hometown discount, he will get more because he is local.

No way on Tim for anything more than 6 million a year, what is the difference between him and Saunders right now? You don't spend that much money on a number 3 starter unless you're in contention.

I'd love to see him here for the right price, but manager first.

14 mil for one year is serious moola, but doesn't offer much security for a youngish pitcher. But dangerous scenario if he's washed to sign him for multiple years.

Tim still doesnt solve our glaring issue. Big bangers in the hitting lineup.

Not only that, but I'd prefer a left hander, as right now I'm thinking we have nothing but righties starting.

The difference between Saunders and Lincecum is a big one. 5.26 ERA vs 4.37 ERA, 1.6WHIP vs 1.3 WHIP. Id take Lincecum over Saunders every time. Lincecum is going to get more than $6M in fact I think he gets closer to $10M. The question is if the Mariners decide to spend money on him or not. Personally I am fine with bringing him to Seattle as long as the money is right. There is a certain monetary line that the Mariners cannot cross with this guy.

He'll get far more than $10 mill/year for any contract he signs.

He and his agent are just looking for suckers who will give him more. If Timmy and the Giants don't come to an agreement, HowChuck might be just the suckers to do it.

14mil? Im out. The only reason to sign him was because hes coming off a couple down years and youd be hoping to buy low and get a steal.

I still like the idea of adding low risk high reward guy. Josh johnson would be my first choice followed by Colon and halladay. Kazmir and ubaldo might be interesting to give a couple years to.

wow he just resigned for 2 years $35 million. Are you kidding I wouldn't have gone over 10 and he gets 17.5. Thank god we didn't pay him that.

Agreed. No way is a guy with a 4.76 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, -2.3 WAR and 72 ERA+ over the last two seasons worth $17.5M per. Very glad the Giants signed him before the M's even had a chance to offer him a contract. Not that they would have.

2 years $35 million?

No thanks Timmy.

On to the next one. Thank god he signed with the Giants before the Mariners had the chance to match that offer.
