That's what back-to-back Cy Young Awards will do for you, even if they were followed by a couple of down years. This deal will probably squash any talk of Lincecum moving to the bullpen too, if there still was any of that talk.

San Francisco overpaid, but did right by him. There's something to be said for loyalty and understanding a team's dynamic, especially when it really doesn't hurt the organization's pocketbook in any way.

As others have said, I'm glad HowChuck didn't get a sniff.

The difference between Saunders and Lincecum is a big one. 5.26 ERA vs 4.37 ERA, 1.6WHIP vs 1.3 WHIP. Id take Lincecum over Saunders every time. Lincecum is going to get more than $6M in fact I think he gets closer to $10M. The question is if the Mariners decide to spend money on him or not. Personally I am fine with bringing him to Seattle as long as the money is right. There is a certain monetary line that the Mariners cannot cross with this guy.

That is not much a difference though. Having Saunders on the staff does not help you win any and Lincecum's number would slightly improve the stats of the staff. Saunders was a stop gap guy, you do not pay another stop gap guy $10 million, give him a 2 year $12 million dollar contract with incentives.
