The same could be argued about Junis (his AAA numbers were much worse). And Hjelle has gotten better and looks better than 2/3rds of the AAA pitchers in Sacramento but I shouldn't even use that as a comparison.
I am all in in taking a look at Hjelli. I think it would be good experience for him and good info for the Giants.

This FO, though, seems oddly averse to playing the kids. Ramos and Hjelli at the top of the list, but you can probably add Villar to the list as well.

Wow.

Joc is an all-star starter. Our first starting OFer since the Melkman in ‘12 and our first all star OFer at all since Pence in ‘14.

That is not a small thing.

Not sure if this has been posted before

Platooning everyone and no stars is fine when you win 107. When you are scuffling it becomes very hard to get excited about. And last year we had Posey who was a big star especially to us. I hear on the radio these guys bitch about "we have basically the same team that won 107 what's going on?" We definitely do not. Posey was the most important player by far, for having a plus bat at a weak offensive position but also the defense and leadership and staff handling. That is all missing now.

Then throw in the fact that the same team guys are not having nearly the same years (Belt and Crawford and Wade and so on all not hitting) and there you have it. These guys could heat up though and 90 wins is still very much in play.

Rodon has been declared inactive for the ASG. He will open the second half on Thursday in LA.

Former Giant Tyler Anderson has been named Rodon’s replacement.

I think this whole inactive pitchers for the All-Star game is dumb. Starting pitchers don't throw many pitches anymore and even if they appear in the All-Star game, they may go one inning, at most. Why not enjoy the spectacle that is the All-Star break, throw a few pitches in the game and start about 3 days later? A little too much caution, in my opinion. Then again, arms do seem a lot more fragile in the 21st century.

Also, got off my lawn!

My sense on Doval is that he is just very immature (baseball-wise). I don’t get the sense he has much confidence. I don’t think he has anything to learn in AAA, his game is too good for that level. He just needs to log innings at the MLB level to convince him that he has the stuff to succeed. And he just isn’t there yet.
Seriously, not like Posey playing 3B, trade for MadBum, and make him the closer. Doval is an ideal setup guy at this point.

We have plenty of caproom, and a having a dependable closer is as pressing a need as any at this point.

Just learned Rodon has a blood blister and a split nail on his pitching hand. Having him inactive for the All-Star game makes much more sense now.

Kap made a pitch to the league as well that the giants have no off days this month outside of the break

Until Buster and Bum are eligible, sure.
This season may be the biggest part of Buster’s resume.

I am not sure Bum makes it. He doesn’t have the regular season resume to support the Hall.

I think what he did vs the Royals in the WS makes him a lock.

But, Im biased.

That is his argument. And his comp is Jack Morris.

He just doesn’t have the regular season success, imho.
