I dont think Rivera or anyone takes this job unless he has total control.
I hope that is not true...I really do.

OR...we find the right person to do it. From the get-go and even now, I am telling you, he isn't the guy. I could live with a mediocre GM/good coach. What I can't live with is a terrible GM/below-average coach.

I understand what you have been saying and heck, I have been in heated arguments about how Snyder has run off the fans and corrupted the entire foundation. That being said, Rivera is still not the right answer and the sooner Snyder realizes that, the better.

I think having him in the film room will be big for Holcomb.
He'll play on run downs. My guess is that there are going to be a lot of packages on D this year. Some 5 man front, 4-2; 4-1 and maybe with Bostic a little 4-3 with Bostic on the strong side. I agree that he could help Holcomb call the defense.

duke --- I don't think there is anyone here that wouldn't like a top notch GM. It is NOT going to happen under Snyder, even if you post that same thing 94983497375353735937959 times.

Last point people hire others they trust and believe in. Not just in football. My former foreman who eventually moved up to owner always brought some of us guys he knew and believed in. It is the way the world works.

Remember ALL the good assistants got out of here.

You might be right about Rivera. That said I think we married up with him. Look at how they did Scot. Look at how all of the sudden a drunk Jay Gruden video gets leaked right before he gets fired. Like JP says. It's the reverse car wash. You go in clean and come out dirty. If not Ron, who?

I never said top-notch GM...I simply want accountability and good decision-making. Surely that is in the GM job description?

I understand what you are saying and yes, that is the world works. My guess is that your foreman brought in people he was familiar with but who were also TALENTED and got results right?

If I was fired as a Sales Manager for not meeting company goals, and then took another job as a Sales Manager, why on earth would I bring in the exact same leadership that got me fired in the first place? Would you not bring in talent who has a fresh perspective, diversity of industry experience, and skill sets that you and your team did not have? I understand that the NFL does not work like a typical business, but my heavens, what we are witnessing is laughable.

At the end of the day, it is about results. Rivera has NOT gotten those results in WSH, and he had 2 seasons with results in CAR. If he was successful and a "great coach", CAR would not have fired him mid-season.

Yeah, I'm not counting on Bostic to be London Fletcher, but I do expect him to speed up Cole's learning curve. I'm not mad at it.

Yes, that is a massive concern. Perhaps Snyder is evolving and relinquishing power? Hiring Rivera and giving him total control threw me for a loop.

For the first time, Snyder did not have his yes man snooping around as he did with Vinny and Bruce. Rivera answers only to Snyder now.

If we have no hope and we are stuck with substandard coach-centric type figures, no wonder the fans are leaving. Why should we stick around? I questioned why fans would still go to the games and got called out for not being a "real fan". We need to either do something as a fan base like boycott the games, or I guess get used to the fact that this is life for the next 30 years or so.

Why would you want a mediocre GM. Forgot about Scot, did have a GM ... actually had Vinny and Bruce too.

All I can say is Ron isn't going anywhere this year. He now has his QBs. He has upgraded the QB position. This team has been in QB hell since Cousins left. I think the RB position and WR position are better. I think this is the year he needs to do a little better.

I quite getting excited after the Shanahan fiasco. You know where Bruce and Dan gave the Shanahans McNabb who they did not want. And they persuaded Mike to draft Griffin ... Mike's answer was Cousins in the 4th. Remember Dan and GM Bruce gave Gruden .... Alex Smith who he didn't want so after Smith got broke Dan decided they wanted Haskins against Gruden and Smith's protests.

I get what you are wishing for, I stand firmly on the platform that it is not going to happen.

Not trying to be argumentative, seriously, but what learning curve are you talking about? Cole has been in the league for 3 years now and is 26 years old. He isn't a rookie in need of a mentor?

We needed depth. Bostic is a sub-standard player and if it was not for WSH, he would not be on an NFL roster. Rivera's affinity for him is strange for sure. Bostic was a human matador previously here in WSH. There is literally no reason to bring him back. Can he play ST? Does he bring coverage abilities or speed? The answers are no to all of those questions.

I was shocked that a LB-needy team, ala Washington, didn't/doesn't nab the Niners PS player McCrary-Ball. He showed pretty well in camp and preseason. Considering that 2 of the Niners 3 LBs are FAs after the year, McCrary-Ball is all but certain to be on our active roster next year.

Maybe he's not a system fit in DC?

At this point, a mediocre GM would be a God send from what we are experiencing...LOL

I understand what you are saying about the offense. I don't understand why nobody talks about the defense. We were the worst passing defense in the league last year and nothing was really done to address that. I have asked that question several times: why was the defense so poor last year and what did Rivera do this offseason to address it?

Yes, Shanahan and Gruden got dumped on when Dan decided to play fantasy football. The McNabb and Haskins situations specifically were head-scratchers. It simply point to what we already knew; Snyder cannot be anywhere near a roster-related decision.

Leave my boy Troy Apke alone. He is a practice player and Washington has 4 Penn State guys now. LOL

duke, you hit on all the reasons the stadium is empty. 30 years of losing, Dan Snyder, a crappy stadium, Dan Snyder, terrible access off the Beltway and last but not least Dan Snyder. The only people that want to go to PG County are those of us who grew up there.

kbso mentioned the Ravens yesterday I think ... better stadium, better team, better owner ... they had a great GM who just retired.

It's just us old farts who have been rooting for the team forever that are hanging on.

So maybe Snyder needs to move the team to STL in the middle of the night with Mayflower moving vans...years later....WSH gets another team called the Red Wolves??????

Everybody, including the old farts, deserves to have a winning team back in DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny that you mentioned London. I thought of him earlier tonight then I said "hell, they didn't win with him either. Love to have a younger version though.

What was it like having the Baltimore Colts Sportster/Skinsdad? Was there ever a rivalry of sorts with them? Did all the Colts fans become Skins fans after the Mayflower exodus? Were you all surprised they moved at all? What was it like the morning after that all went down?

Irsay's father moved the team correct? Wow...like father like son I guess. Why did he dislike Baltimore so much?

I am not saying they are doing the right thing. I think they are going to play situational football and are not prioritizing LBs they way most think they should. Some 5 man line, 5 or 6 DBs with one or two safeties playing LBer. I could be wrong but that is my guess.

If they are going to play with a lot of DBs I hope they blitz more than they have the first two years.

Oh no! Baltimore was only 40 miles away but back then it might as well have been a 1,000 miles. Folks from Baltimore did not like Washington DC area which is funny to me because Baltimore is the armpit of the world. LOL The Orioles and Colts were really good Redskins and Senators not. However, the Redskins were loveable (something they have lost since Gibbs 1.) No love lost between folks from Baltimore and Washington back in the day. As you can see I have not changed. LOL

Hell some people from Baltimore are just starting to root for the Terps in basketball because they have been recruiting in basketball.
