Sandoval out for the year. He will have surgery on his hammy in the coming days.

Too bad. He was a real asset this year and reportedly in the running for the Willie Mac. The guy really turned himself around. Sad to see him hit this wall.
Man, how things change, eh? We weren't exactly sad when he went to Boston, and many of us were unhappy when we signed him (for next to nothing) when the Red Sox released him. But as you say, he has been a very valuable player this year for this team (and at great cost savings!). Sad his season ended like this.
I think you all are over valuing his production, based on his early season numbers. He flatlined the last two months, making his season numbers rather meh. Still, it was decent production for a guy being paid league minimum by the team.

I was gonna come here to say this. He had a hot stretch earlier but has basically been replacement level this year. Not complaining because it was for the minimum, and he's apparently been really great for the clubhouse, but I don't see this as a monumental loss. He can still do the clubhouse stuff the rest of the year.

I was sad to see him go and glad to have him back. The Gs offered a lot of doh and he still split. Oh well.

His post season performances in 12+14 were what endeared him to me. Would he ever be a stud like that again? We can only hope.

Strickland, meanwhile, made his first rehab appearance last Saturday, giving up two hits (no runs) and 2 strikeouts in 1 inning.

Maybe he'll be healthy this time. Don't hold your breath.
It hardly matters how it goes but if he thinks he can pitch it would be nice to see if it's true
Something to build on for next year. If he is truly ready then a rotation of Bum/D Rod/FA/healthy Shark/Suarez isn't too shabby

Didn't know where to post this one, but,

Madbum's Grandmother just passed away here in North Carolina and her funeral is Friday the 10th, he's a pall-bearer.

This might be a great opportunity to get an autograph though,

Too soon?

I didn't know Hundley was on concussion protocol. This from sfgiants.com:

The Giants got a visitor in the clubhouse in the person of Minor League catcher Aramis Garcia. He'd been promoted from Double-A to Triple-A on Monday, but the Giants needed some coverage Thursday after backup catcher Nick Hundley took a nasty foul tip off his helmet while behind the plate Tuesday. Hundley is on concussion protocol, but did all the pregame work in hopes that the doctors would clear him to be eligible to play.

Another minor (?) injury I was not aware of is Chase d'Arnaud. Apparently, he is day-to-day due to an issue with one of his knees.

Another potential concussion for a Giant, this time Crawford. Took a knee from Gorkys straight to the head

Read about that. Just when one Brandon is ready to come back (from a knee injury), another Brandon goes down (because of a knee)!

• Bochy announced that right-hander Jeff Samardzija will pitch one more simulated game Friday in Cincinnati. He'll progress to a Minor League rehab assignment if that outing goes well.
