Apparently, Buster is going to play tomorrow, but that might be it.

Jon just mentioned it on the radio. Apparently Sabes has confirmed it.

Sounds like someone screwed up the Giants' plans and leaked the Posey news early. Unfortunately it makes both sides look bad so I'm not really sure who benefits from this. Maybe an overzealous intern

I wonder how long he's been sitting on that injury (cannot open the article).

Edit: I cannot find this anywhere else (i.e. MLB Trade Rumors, SFGiants.com, ESPN, Baseball Reference). Is this a legit article?

from the Athletic today:

"Posey has been playing through the ailment since May and is on pace to set full-season career-lows in each of the Triple Crown categories as well as OPS (.746 through Tuesday)."

Except the Giants have 3 catchers at AAA. They can spare a guy. Will he be productive at the big league level? Probably not but Posey needs surgery and rest if the Giants hope to contend in 2019 and this season is all but lost.

And I should add, the AAA team only has 13 games left in the season (including tonight's) and has no real chance to make the playoffs. They really can make do with 2 catchers. Baggarly's post is ill informed, in my opinion.

I think he nailed it with the CBT comment. Giants too close to the line.

If McCutchen is traded soon then that becomes a bit moot but you are right, that does impact current decisions. Kinda stinks that the Giants spent so close to the cap, chose not to cross the cap and put themselves into a position where one of their franchise players has to play hurt because they cannot afford replacements. Sounds like the early days of major league baseball.

Sammy experienced “soreness” after his last rehab start. Surgery has been discussed.

The devil certainly is collecting his due in full...

Sabean said that the recovery time for Posey will be about 6 months. WHY THE HELL IS HE STILL PLAYING???

6 months right now puts Posey back in February when pitchers and catchers report. Good. But if there are any setbacks then you're starting to get into ST and possibly the regular reason. Just get it done with now, jebus

I’m not up as much as you guys on this stuff so here’s a question.

Would it make a difference if they waited until Sept and the call ups to do the surgery?

If they end up trading McCutchen... then no. They are a fraction under the tax right now and paying anyone to come up will push them over.

I don't understand the hesitance to do either action at this stage, though. Trade Cutch and call up anyone you want, while shutting Posey down.

I guess we have to trust the FO knows what they are doing. However, it sure looks like they have no clue.

They have a clue. They are doing everything to keep the turnstiles turning.

I understand that strategy, and am basically OK with it. It is a business, after all.

But don't they realize that making the playoffs is a HUGE boon that is worth sacrificing some short term ticket sales?
