This was the more interesting part of Baggs' comments to me:

"I really wonder if the Giants will revisit bringing in the fences after this season. It***8217;s clear that the park gets in the head of every home hitter who plays here for any stretch of time.

You had to feel bad for Brandon Belt when he scalded two balls and made outs. He hit a lineout to third base and was robbed by a leaping grab. And in the ninth, he seemed to pose a bit while dropping his bat after hitting a ball to straightaway center field.

It was caught at the wall.

***8220;I was sure it was gone,***8221; Belt said. ***8220;There was no doubt it was gone. I won***8217;t make that mistake again, that***8217;s for sure.***8221;

Belt went on to say he would take all the positives out of making hard contact, which is commendable for a young player.

Although ***8230; I think Aaron Rowand said some of the same things in his first season as a Giant."

What do you guys think about moving the fences in some?

I don't like it, frankly...the pitching staff is full of strike out/flyball guys...and I don't see the Giants offense having the power short term to take advantage of the shorter fences.

More seats can never be a bad thing from a management standpoint. Plus, chicks still dig the longball. ;) It probably wouldn't be too difficult from left-center to right-center. Obviously, right is pretty set in stone (or brick). I like where left field down-the-line is set up because guys can't just pop it up if they pull it like in Houston or right field at Yankee stadium. They have to still get ahold of one, but yeah, the gaps are rough.

From a defensive standpoint, it would take away a chunk of triple's alley, which can be good and bad. Obviously, this Giants team (and most in years past) doesn't have the speed to truly utilize that area. However, I'm hoping that will change soon.

I don't think it's a bad idea as long as the pitchers are okay with it (which I assume they would be because they have faith in their abilities and want more runs on their side). Interesting idea. We shall see. Fix the team around the park or the park around the team?

Seems like a logical idea to fix the team to fit the park. The Yankees went out and got power hitters, why? Because their park is a home run park. Obviously, in a hangover from the Bonds era, Sabean keeps trying to bring in home run guys to a park that is just not conducive to home runs. Helps our pitching staff, which is OK with me. We need some gazelles who can run, and hit doubles and triples. I say leave the OF alone, and adjust the team. Unless we go rob the Red Sox of AGon, who can hit homers anywhere, as demonstrated at the Litter Box. AT&T is NOT a HR park, and adjusting it will not help us as much as hurt us, I think.

Hitters, too, are going to have to adjust. Instead of swinging for the fences at home, they need to hit the gaps. Rowand was absolutely ruined by AT&T, and I think it got into his head. He thought he was a HR hitter. Not!

My two cents.

Before the game they bring out a temporary wall during batting practice, I think if they just make that permanent raising it to the level of the outfield wall and keeping the same angles would still keep the triples alley alive but bring in the fences just a bit, and would add about 3 rows of bleacher seats.
