FIRE TODDD NOW!!! Geez man, there is no reason SJ should be losing these games... They arent giving up any goals (cept for vs colombus) and shouldve had all of these... What team gets 2 shutouts in regulation in 3 games and LOSES BOTH!!?

BTW Burns out?? Defense lights out again Cmon ;) haha

Defense was pretty good tonight. Not nearly as effecient in their own zone as the Pheonix game and the Braun/Murray pairing stuggled again, mostly because of Murray, but overall their play was acceptable.

I saw the 1st on DVR then couldn't resist and went to the GDT to see how it turned out. I thought the Sharks opened the game well, but you gotta get some results (goals). I'm sure the team is starting to press now. Time for the leaders to step up. I won't hold my breath on that.

I did not see the rest of the game, but it's not like the Sharks are being blown out of the water these past few games. The old guys are slowing down and since they haven't had scoring depth in forever, it's a bad combination.

WTF happened to Clowe? I thought I'd see an energized guy playing for a big payday (pending UFA), but he is sucking.

We have a gigantic slew of forwards who refuse to drive the net and shoot. It is a very basic and rewarding concept. Very few of our forwards skate in to the zone with controlled puck possession. I'm sick of watching this pathetic style of hockey. It is fundamentally flawed.

Exactly the break down I made a few days ago when talking to some friends. We came to the conclusion it all falls on McLellan's shoulders. You can't tell me this team is coached to crash the net, when game in and out, they do the opposite. This team plays the way they are coached. Lazy, and without heart. Watch McLellan on the beach, dude rarely moves, rarely gets mad, rarely offers coaching advice.

I'd rather see Robinson coaching this team right now. At least I could see him putting a little fire under the asses of these lazy ass players.

Cmon I hope your smart enough to realize Im just fucking with you on the d end of things... wht amazes me is that you stretch for answers to actually explain and suggest otherwise as if you have to question yourself and provide dumb proof... lol I know Burns isnt to blam, but its funny you keep stretching to justify him.. Dude man, they got a SHUTOUT but you put blame, yet hwne I joke and blame Burns you say BEST PERFORMANCE EVER... Chill out man, I hate the fucker no doubt, but Im not that dumb to think he was the reason behind the 6-2 thomping... How does a pairing "struggle" while giving up ZEROFUCKING GOALS, but IYO, be the GREATEST PERFORMANCE EVER with Burns while giving up the same ZERO... Dude, your stretching, STOP it PLEASE... this is almost as pathetic as you stretching for the Eager hit in the playoffs.. Just stop.. It was a friggen joke.. I didnt expect you to get hat butt hurt...

Likewall, I take a very analitical "call it like it is" approach to things when it comes to the Sharks. I have the players I like more than others just like everyone but I don't let those likes and dislikes abscure my objectivity when critiquing their play. Sometimes I'm right. Sometimes I'm wrong. It's the nature of the beast when you're trying to analize something from a distance without all the info. I have zero issues admitting when I'm wrong and will never point out when I'm right. I take this approach because I'm here to discuss hockey on a rational level not fight with others who choose to take things to an irrational level. You have to understand Likewall you have a long history of pushing your bias agenda to ridiculous lengths.

As for the discussion about Burns, you made a joke and I followed with a couple retorical questions also made in jest. You chose to push it farther and I have simply responded with honest evaluations of the teams/players play. Nothing more, nothing less.

burns has looked a touch shaky since his return, but that's to be expected.

murray is the one I just cant understand. i understand his physicalty, but he has been too slow to keep up for years. what is todd's hard on for him? clearly, speed is the name of the game and murray is the exact opposite.

also, clowe is done. be it injury, wear and tear, years or what, but he's no longer the same player he was 3 years ago. Todd is valiantly trying to revive him by giving him top PP minutes and top line pairings, but he is clearly a step slow. He's a respectable thrid liner with spot duty in the top 6, but to expect him to put in 20+ goals and 50+ pts equivilent is likely a thing of the past.

The only way it seems that the sharks can proceed from here is figure out who is still a good value and young enough and build around them. The list of keepers isnt too long but it's a reasonable core.

up front they can keep pavs and cooch from the top 6. jumbo, patty, clowe, and havlat are all getting up there in age, and arent good values for their contracts. In the bottom six, they can keep whoever, but none of wingels, galiardi, desi, and company are likely to be more than just filler. Galiardi still has a modicum of potential, but todd has obviously failed to get anything out of him. Basically, up front, they need to start nearly from scratch.

On defense, however, the core is largely intact and young. Pickles, burns, braun, demers, irwin are all keepers. They obviously could use 1 or 2 more, but most of the defense is 27 or younger and looks reasonable.

If dougie gives up more picks and prospects for band-aid players, then its just gunna delay the inevitable and make the rebuild that much more painful to watch. This team is not 1 player from a cup contender unless that player is names crosby. the sooner dougie tries to get younger, faster, and cheaper the better off the sharks will be. Of course, after signing zues and burish for a combined 12M in the last two offseasons, I gotta hope its someone other than dougie that makes that call.

Havlat has a skill set you'd probably want to keep. At least until his current contract is up in two years. That will provide time for a suitable replacement to emerge.

On defense the team is set. Stuart will stick around for the remainder of his contract and their is depth in the minors to fill bottom pairing roles if needed. Irwin obviously then you have Acolatse who probably would have made the team over Irwin had it not been for injury. Tennyson is close to NHL ready. Robinson claimes Petrecki is NHL ready but the jury is still out on that IMO. He has been outstanding in the AHL this year but his NHL debut was anthing but confidence inspiring. Another who may come out of no where to surprise is Denny Urban. He's currently on a PTO in Worcester but the kid can flat out play both ends of the ice.

If trades are made to improve the forward group I'd hope the primary targets are Ryan O'Reilly and Jakob Voracek. Secondary options being Viktor Stalberg, Stephen Weiss, Kyle Okposo, Matt Read, and Karl Hagelin. Surprisingly the Sharks prospect pool at forward is looking a bit better. Matt Nieto has scoring line winger potential. His linemate Daniel O'Regan is also emerging as a strong offensive player. While I hated the pick if Hertl can improve his speed and acceleration he is going to be a top line forward. He's got a great hockey IQ and hands that are in the same catagory as Alexei Kovalev. Rules has mentioned Daniil Tarasov before, currently with Worcester on a PTO, but he is another that could turn out to be something special.

If, and it's a huge if, the team does move Thornton and Marleau having center depth of Couture, O'Reilly, Pavelski, Desjardins would be a huge start to a retooling.

Wilson will not trade Marleau, Thornton. He has a plan to stick with them till the very end. I dont see the fire in the players faces and im really starting to think it has to do with planning from the coaches.

:yahoo: Hell yeah, optimism. Glad to hear there's some hope with retooling the forwards. I agree the blueliners are a very solid corp. The worst thing Doug can do to them is trade one of the youngster dmen for a temp veteran forward. Need to trade youth for youth, somehow.

Weiss would be nice, as would O Reilly. Forwards like that are exactly what I'd like in return for giving up Braun/Demers.

I'm all for making a trade to improve the trade, but it has to be smart.
Guys, all in all, this team is about where I figured they'd be, around 4th in the West....
Take out the great start, and the horrible stretch of the last 6 games, and point wise, they are kinda where I thought they would be.
Going into the season, I was concerned about 2 things....The PK, and scoring from the bottom 6. The PK was been awesome! The bottom 6 scoring has been abysmal.... Somehow come up with a good 3rd line, and they are in business...
In the West, other than Chicago, there is nobody that really scares me. The Sharks can hang with all of them.
