Michael Crabtree - WR - 49ers

49ers activated WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') from the reserve/PUP list.

Crabtree is fully expected to make his 2013 debut on Sunday against the Rams. Although owners who stashed Crabtree are likely champing at the bit to start him, he's best left benched for at least Week 13. Crabtree is returning from an explosion-sapping injury, and will almost certainly be on a snap count against the Rams. If you can't wait-and-see, Crabtree will most likely produce as a WR4/5 as he gets his feet wet.

I fear Crabtree will never return to his form from last year. What does history say about wide receivers who come back from a torn Achilles? Explosiveness and jumping is kind of a basic need for a wide receiver.

No. I like the ones we have. Now, if we played a 4-3 like the Rams, I'd love to have Laurinitis.

So if we transitioned to a 4-3, you would rather have either Laurinitis instead of either Willis or Bowman?

Nope. I'd have all three of them obviously.

That's a good read. Interesting perspective.

Roman needs to let Mario be our "deep threat". He has the skill to get behind DBs - he's not always going to haul in the catch (trust me I know...his hands is tad bit better than Ginn's), but often times he will hold on to the ball. If Kap admires the deep ball, we need to use Manningham like the Giants had utilized him when he was playing in that offense. That's the point I was trying to make in Clyde's thread: http://www.sportshoopla.com/forums/san-francisco-49ers/126960-problems-our-passing-offense.html

Isaiah Pead - RB - Rams

It's unclear if Isaiah Pead or Daryl Richardson would be the No. 2 back if Zac Stacy (concussion) sits out Sunday.

It's a foregone conclusion that Benny Cunningham would start and be the feature back in the event Stacy can't get cleared. Behind him, it gets more muddled. Pead played just five snaps against the Bears and got no touches while Richardson was a healthy scratch. The coaching staff doesn't appear to have much faith in either one right now.

Eric Branch:

Ahmad Brooks (8.5 sacks) & Aldon Smith (6.5) could be first #49ers with at least 10 sacks in same season since 1998 (Doleman and Barker).

Man I hope so.......if they can't scrounge up 4.5 between them in 5 more games we're likely not in the SB tourney.

I'm extremely glad Brooks is having a great year because the Niners seriously need to trade him in the offseason.
