Game Thread: WEEK 3: 49ERS at Rams

Not sure about "roll" but i think they'll win. It may be closer than the spread because we're struggling in the red zone. Field goals are better than nothing but it also makes for close games.

The offense needs to score TD's and ease pressure on the defense.

What good is a receiver who can’t catch balls that are in his numbers or right in his hands? His first drop, in a vacuum, MIGHT be excusable as it was slightly under thrown, but receivers need to do SOME of the work as well.

Shanna Bland play calling at the end of Games is amazing. Sometimes it works but other teams don't feel the clinch when the Niners are driving at the end of games. Almost always settle for FGs. Well also missed FGs.

You win! Flat tire and blown radiator. Niners were out coached, out hustled, out played. I see some serious issues. Many were foreseeable. Some are unforgivable. Special Teams are an underperforming unit year after year. At some point the coordinator and the head coach have to be accountable. The run defense was an issue last year, even when Greenlaw was healthy. This is either a personnel issue or coaching. You can blame Sorensen, the likely fall guy, but Kyle and John were aware of the issues last year and failed to figure it out over the offseason. I mean, it was Kyle who hired Wilks and promoted Sorensen. And, the offensive line continues to struggle for third consecutive year. Its either personnel or coaching. I think it is a combination. When Jed York commits $50M-$6M a year to Purdy extension, Kyle better take care of the franchise QB. One third round pick (Puni) is all they have to show despite years of inadequacy.

Being partially sarcastic but if Shanny was coach for Mahomes he would have half of less of the comebacks that Mahomes has now.

He's too conservative with the lead in the 4th quarter

While i get the gist about our Coach being 'conservative' and 'finding a way to lose', but there are some things he can't control. The best example is Ronnie Bell dropping a pass. If the players don't execute blocks or stay in their lanes on ST coverages, its not the HC. If the PK misses a kick, he can't control that. Many poor blocks especially by 'no arms' McKivitz.

Part of why Shanahan is conservative is his overall philosophy and that is his offense controls the clock. So you lean run and RACs going downfield. Against good QB's and hence good offenses, this makes sense especially in the play-offs.

After so many disappointments today he's realizing he has to throw it downfield a little more. Against the Patriots there were more than enough downfield passes and we'd expect he'll continue. Not as many as in this past game, but he has to put it on film, it keeps the DB's honest.

Yes he has a track record of blowing 4th quarter leads, and this Rams game just added to it. But again, to close out this game in the 4th quarter, a series of errors by different players. Didn't think Shanahan called poor plays as evidenced by the pass to Bell, that was certainly downfield.

When closing out games its hard to say how our offense should do it? Conventional wisdom is to lean run and i agree with it in general. Until the game ends, we don't really know what the specific plays should have been? "closing out games" isn't really defined too, but for me its about 5-6 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Lowell had the rep going back to the ‘80s and ‘90s. Everything I have read/heard about Grant is that he is a real chip off the ol’ block.

I used to watch Grant quite a bit along with others, but lately I've been skipping his Youtubes.
