Consider the source, first and foremost. But on a practical level we shouldn't be surprised if Elway opts for a low-cost veteran in 2016 over a draft pick that is unlikely to be ready to shoulder the load as a rookie. When it comes to Hoyer or McCown, I definitely prefer McCown, but Hoyer wouldn't be awful either. I don't consider either a major upgrade over Sanchez, honestly. If the Broncos bring either of these in I say they do so and make a late round draft pick at the QB position. Then the team would go into camp with essentially a 3-way battle with a 4th arm to spread load the work around.

Also, sorry to be discussing tired old retreads as the draft approaches. I find I can only handle so much draft conversation before I lose interest.

Josh McCown, Brian Hoyer options for Denver Broncos

Mike Glennon would be my ideal choice.

I've seen his name floated too. There's probably a lot of upside there as opposed to a McCown. To be honest, none of these guys excite me a whole heap. Out of Sanchez, Hoyer, McCown, or Glennon, I wonder which one is most likely to succeed in Kubiak's system?

Also, from Peyton Manning to two former Browns QBs being teased as possible names? Wow!

I'd rather have Sanchez than Hoyer or McCown.

And I don't even like Sanchez.

Glennon is not athletic enough in my opinion. He just doesn't move quick enough to run that bootleg play consistently. Throw in they are wanting a 2nd round pick to trade for him. No thank you on that value. Maybe a 6th round pick or later and I would think about it to add competition to the team but beyond that just can't see this being a viable option.

Guys near Sanchez ability, but argument could be made for better than:
  • Henne
  • Bortles
  • K. Moore
  • Glennon
  • McCoy
  • Gabbert
  • RG3
  • D. Anderson
  • Foles
  • Schaub
  • G. Smith
  • S. Hill
  • Hoyer
  • Vick
  • Stanton
  • McCown
  • Manuel
  • Cassel
  • Davis

These are guys listed from another thread that I think are around Sanchez. I don't see why we should stock up on guys that are can barely/can't hack it types. Was 3 years of Kyle Orton not enough?

I doubt we stock up on them. My guess is we maybe bring in one more veteran to compete as you need 4 QB's going into camp usually. We can't always have an All-Pro at the position so bringing in some journeyman that maybe can have a good season is worth it then try to draft and hope you get a good one. Not very often a guy like Manning comes on the market and even there that was a huge risk considering when we signed him he could barely throw 20 yards.

Fair point. I just think one Kyle Orton-like QB on your roster is more than enough.

I understand. I honestly wouldn't mind us going and getting Josh McCown. Two of his last three years have actually been very productive when he got a chance to play. Injuries derailed a very good season this past year even with Cleveland struggling as he had a 3 touchdown to 1 interception ratio going and a very good QB Rating. He was also on pace to throw for 4200 yards for the year. If we could get that kind of production out of him or even close then honestly we would have a huge upgrade at the QB position. Plus he won't cost us a draft pick like Kaepernick and his deal would probably be for a lot less. Gives a rookie maybe a year to develop then.

I would at least like him more than Sanchez right now.

I still say the QB pick will come early in the draft - as Elway wants to groom the next star and have him ready by 2019

2019 ? That is 3 seasons away. I think you meant to type 2017. See I do read your posts.

I really meant 2018 -LOL. A developmental QB should be ready to start in his third season - some sooner, of course, but if Sanchez works out the Broncos control him cheaply for a few years.

I also read your posts Chris.

Good posts IKF and I agree. Hoyer and McCown are splitting images to me. Either one could beat out Sanchez or visa versa. All three are remarkably similar in what their capable of and their weaknesses. You could probably put all 3 names in a hat and get same result as far as production, efficiency and bonehead plays. Glennon has the better arm but last I saw he struggled with accuracy and he's not as mobile as the other 3. Seriously you could go with either of them and get same results.
