They're really only a small segment of the melting-pot that is Ventura. We've got a little bit of everything, here

Snowbirds, hippies, LA commuters, greasers, rastafarian, bible-thumpers, surfers, surf-thugs.

It's like Baskin Robbins, really :amen:

I thought Ventura was lovely. My teammates and I got drunk and went swimming in the Pacific naked and under a full moon at like 3 am when we were there. And we did lots of shopping. Cute town.

If you come back check out Ventura Ave. It's where a lot of the authentic Mexican restaurants reside. Stay out of the south side of town, it's mostly strip-malls and cookie-cutter burbs. The north side of town is where it's at:peace2:

They shouldn't be paying for people to not get pregnant, people should be able to do this on their own. This country just gives and gives. What the gov't should do is stop giving so much help to women who just push kids out onpurpose to r*pe the system. I want my taxes that I pay to be used to build infrastructure, not keep people down and suppressed.

I'm pretty sure 16-year old girls who get knocked up are doing it more often because they are young, stupid, and make mistakes (like many of us did at that age) than some grand scheme to game the system and live on the border of poverty for decades to come.

If you think financial support for Planned Parenthood "costs" us money, you should perhaps consider the real cost of having a mother who never gets an education, is strapped down to kids at an early age, and has a much slimmer chance of being a productive, tax-paying member of society (a cycle that often repeats for generations) because of it. Organizations like these, nonprofits, faith-based organizations around the country, etc. have reduced teen pregnancy over the past couple decades, and that saves us all money in the big picture. If your argument is a morale one, then that is not my fight and you're welcome to it. If your argument is a financial one, you'd be hard-pressed to make the case that not supporting places like Planned Parenthood is going to "save" us money.

There isn't one side showing bad form here. Both are. Aside from the buget, it's about control of the issues for the next several years and not wanting to flinch first. Both sides would do well to be reminded that they are both in office largely because the economy is bad, which is never good for the incumbent and an issue that voters often put as paramount and in significant disproportion to the actual influence the federal gov't can have upon it.

The way the economy is - certainly not the time to cut off pay checks to hard-working individuals and families.

I can't even finish reading this thread. I was on page three, but I really just wish our values were more aligned with a common decency.

I make a lot of money for a 23-year-old. If someone gets health care they need and I have to wait three more months to upgrade my smartphone, I'm okay with that. I feel like people don't know how good they have it. My parents were blue collar workers who worked very hard so we could live in a nice suburb and I could go to a decent school. Pretty sure I had a better chance of going to college, getting a job, and being able to afford medical coverage than someone in horrible circumstances.

The biggest lie that continues to pervade this country's thinking is that we all somehow have the exact same shot at making something of ourselves. But let's keep telling ourselves that if everyone just worked harder, they could pull themselves up by their own bootstraps!

The non-profits, faith-based organizations, etc can do it then. If people want to fund PP with private funds then that is fine. Our tax dollars do not need to be spent of funding things such as his though.

Congratulations. Congratulations to anyone who falls in line with their favorite party's talking points, to anyone who who points the finger, to anyone who buys into the extremist propaganda spewed by MSNBC, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, etc. You are the cancer that is killing this country.

The corporations, "leaders", and politicians are gorging themselves at the buffet while America is quickly and not so quietly being weaned off of the delicious spread and on to table scraps. The people aren't being raped, they are being ignored. A vast majority of you, whether you want to admit it or not, are being deceived by the whole notion that "your" party is looking out for the good of the nation while the other is a bunch of lying hypocritical thieves. Keep demanding a changing of the guard, a new regime, keep "kicking the bums out". It's worked great over the last 20 years, hasn't it?

Instead of buying into the finger pointing blame game this is Washington politics, demand some fucking compromise. While no one in congress or in the puppet media organizations will admit it, fighting tooth and nail over your ideologies isn't going to solve our country's woes. Instead we're walking face first into a great divide and conquer scheme.

It's not the Democrat's fault, it's not the Republican's fault, it's not Obama's fault, it's not Bush's fault... it's all of them for acting like kids on a playground instead of working as a team.

Discussing solutions is so 60 years ago. Finger pointing is the in thing now. :L

I wonder if we even have the capacity to be objective anymore. I guess it really doesn't matter. Once we lose our Triple A status we will see just how far this well goes down. In my mind I envision all of us as circling a funnel right now and we are just about at the stage where we are beginning to gain momentum. This is merely the beginning. I could be wrong though. Man I hope I am.

Whether one cares for Planned Parenthood or not I can understand the argument that the Republicans recent offer was being disingenuous. Planned Parenthood financing has been argued about for years so their last ditch effort to keep the government cuts funding for that? They knew there would be an argument against that and they knew that the proposal would be viewed as a social issue change (favorably by some, negatively by some) instead of the purely budgetary cut they claim it is.

They are just playing political games just like the Dems.

The GOP has softened their stance from the 100 billion they were trying to cut and are around 40 billion now. It doesnt look like much softening on the Dem side though since they are making their stand on this issue

So are the Republicans, they knew there would be a problem with that cut. That's why I think that proposal was in essence a media stunt. Whether one likes funding for that program or not, it has been a hot topic for years and cutting the funding in what was called a budget compromise was pure politicking and not a real effort to avoid the shut down.

I am just awaiting the Democrats countering by cutting the budget by 100 Billion on all military / defense spending.
I am sure the Republicans would not agree on that but it looks like they are trying to cut the budget.

I am sorry ElYeah that your paycheck is tied to this mess.

It is what it is, but it looks like only one side is showing any give. The Dems always cut defense spending and military pay raises so it is clear which side of the issue I sit on. Even Clinton said he wouldnt be the president that allowed the military to function without pay during his tenure. I just think our president is a smug asshole.

That is weird, I remember the last president was pushing for huge cuts in veteran's benefits and it was democrats who were up in arms about it.

Round and Round we go.

The last president made huge strides in benefits for the troops. Pay raise, death benefites, privatized housing, transferable GI bill, and so on.
