Riley Reiff - T - Lions

Lions GM Martin Mayhew is leaving the door open for 2012 first-round pick Riley Reiff to be the team's Opening Day left tackle.

The Lions have a glaring hole after Jeff Backus' retirement and failed to secure any of free agency's premier left tackles. Central Michigan's Eric Fisher could be on Detroit's radar with the fifth overall draft pick. Reiff was considered more of a right tackle or guard prospect coming out of Iowa last year, due to short arms. He'd have to win with technique on Matthew Stafford's blindside.

I realize he would just hold a clip board but why waste the cap space/roster spot on this washed up bum?

God damn it.

The Denver Post reports the Ravens are "negotiating" with free agent Elvis Dumervil.
It's unclear if any deal is imminent, but Baltimore's interest is genuine. Dumervil reportedly received a "strong recommendation" from Ravens assistant Wink Martindale, who was Dumervil's position coach when he led the league with 17 sacks in 2009. Dumervil would be a 3-4 outside linebacker in Baltimore. Mar 18 - 5:16 PM

If there are alot of suitors for him I'd be surprised if he'd choose SF anymore. Assuming the 49ers currently have an interest in meeting with and possibly signing him.

Not sure if I missed this being posted but....

Rick Gosselin @RickGosselinDMN The 49ers lost 4 players in FA who started a combined 32 games in 2012. To keep them would have cost SF $91.75 M with $42.85 M guaranteed.

Part of why we want to be deliberate in FA. We should be looking at some good comp picks next year.

yes, we could use an experienced back up and he shouldn't cost a lot? main thing is he fits most of our scheme?

If Dumervil signs with Baltimore then that brings Denver back into the Abraham sweepstakes, though I wonder if the 49ers even have an interest in him anymore. I didn't have that strong of a feeling they'd complete something with Abraham or really any bigger name pass rusher to begin with.

I had zero expectation they'd pursue Dumervil at all, though just because we haven't heard something doesn't mean they didn't enter the process.

One good thing about the many reasonable contracts we're seeing this year is that it may help us to re-sign some of our own guys next year. We'll see, and there's no doubt we'll lose some starters, but hopefully the market is still pretty quiet and we can lock up Aldon and some of the OL for good prices before the cap starts going up again.

Ian Rapoport:

Niners reached a one-year deal with LB Parys Haralson, I'm told. It's for $1.3M with a chance to make $1.7M. Good locker room guy, too

Just reduced his cap figure.
