Rodger Saffold - T - Rams

Free agent G/T Rodger Saffold's agent said his client will test the open market.
"Rodger definitely will be out in the free-agent market," Saffold's agent said. The Rams and Saffold talked this week, but Saffold likely wants to see if a team will pay him to play left tackle. The Rams want him to play right guard. Due to his versatility, we expect Saffold to have a healthy market despite injury concerns.

This would be a hole for the Rams.

Maybe it was only Matt Moore that Sickness was ok with but would demand too much for a backup. I thought he had said Gabbert was a terrible starter but good backup. I need to read up on the Book of Sickness.

So 9pm PST tonight all hell breaks loose I guess. Looks like Dawson, TBrown, and Whitner are going to market. We also haven't restructured or cut Rogers yet which is messed up if we don't cut him now so he can play the market.

I just realized Stevie Brown is a free agent and he is coming off an ACL tear which Baalke loooooooves; so he seems like a no-brainer cost effective with major potential at SS kind of player.

I said I'd be ok with Chad Henne as a backup, but he's probably too expensive.

Did Blaine Gabbert get cut or something? It's not exactly an endorsement to say you'd consider a guy when the current backup is Colt McCoy, but I've never devoted a single brain cell to Blaine, You-Probably-Think-This-Song-Is-About-You Gabbert.

Henne re-signed with JAX today for 2 years, $8M with $1.5M guaranteed.

Cards just inked TE John Carlson to a two year deal, he was eligible to sign already because he was cut.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 9m

The #Cardinals are paying TE John Carlson $4.65M over two years, according to a source.

As @brian_mcintyre said, the #Seahawks put a 2nd-round tender on WR Doug Baldwin. $2.187M on a one-year deal.

Ryan Shazier ran 4.36 at Ohio State's pro' day, which means he probably would've ran 4.55 at the combine.

Hope this pushes him into the 1st round.

...speaking of Shazier, he's the only LB in NCAA I thought could possibly play strong safety at a high level; but that seems like it'd be a waste because he's such a good LB.

I've always thought Carlson had the potential to be a pretty decent TE, but he's never really put it together. Vikes clearly overpaid for him. I'll be interested to see what happens with the Cards.

Ahh so the negotiating period starts at 9am PST today. I wondered why twitter wasn't buzzing with news.

If we keep both of our 2's wouldn't Baldwin be as good as any guy we could draft there?

That tumbleweed gif made me think of back on the 4-letter board when this was the best tumbleweed I could post:

@.....@............@........@............@.............@

Back in MY day we had to use the at symbol to post tumbleweeds with our dial-up internet connections. And it took 4 hours to do so! We made do.

C'mon Baalke place a phone call to MM's agent:

Mike Mitchell - DB - Panthers

The Charlotte Observer expects free agents FS Mike Mitchell and WR/KR Ted Ginn Jr. to hit the open market.

Both are priorities for Carolina, but the Panthers' salary cap concerns have made re-signing both difficult. Mitchell flourished as a starter in 2013, recording 66 tackles, four interceptions, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Ginn posted a 36-556-5 line in a breakout 2013 campaign.
