Tough one for Niners fans. The guy was an all-time Niners great. But it was probably wise to let him walk.

I happen to think this is a mistake for Philly but not because I don't respect the player's heart and passion. He's just too old to commit to IMO.

Averaged more yards per carry than McCoy did last year. As long as Chip doesn't try to run him into the ground, he should be fine as a bridge player for a couple of years. And since Chip is big time into the whole sports science thing, I don't think overusing him will be an issue.

Not happy about this but what can you do? He will give the same effort for the Eagles that he always gave with the 9ers. I will miss him.

Look, I am sure I won't find it hard to root for him. He is a workhorse who blocks, runs hard inside, does all the little things. But he is pretty old. I guess the bright side is he ended the season with a big bang and seems to have something in the tank. But three seasons in the tank? I bet he never sees the end of that contact. Two years tops.

Frank will be missed. The man was a stud in every sense of the word for the 9ers and just a great all around man. Eagles got a heck of a person, and even if the years are adding up, I think Philly's offense will put a little less wear on him.

Time for Carlos Hyde to step up.

Given a reasonable contract, I love this signing. He's everything you love and want in a running back, even if the wheels aren't fresh anymore.

The Eagles are now completely unrecognizable. A lot of peculiar moves to say the least.

They overpay for Maxwell, sign an aging RB to replace McCoy, don't tag Maclin and lose him to KC..... Am I forgetting anything? Either chip is a genius or he will be coaching a college team real soon.

Some very interesting moves for a team that is bringing back Sanchez.....

Eagles. Good god. I had them as a decent contender going into this season but after the offseason moves so far, forget it.

Did they really just pay Mark Sanchez more than backup money? Are they really thinking Mark Sanchez might start this season? Good god.

Overpay for Maxwell, bring in a 32 year old back with 2,500 or so carries under his belt (to a 3 year contract?), lose both their best offensive weapons, plug in a ? at middle linebacker, and get rid of Trent Cole who still played pretty well.

Hopefully Trent Cole comes to Seattle. He'd be a great LEO fit :)

It's definitely hard to make sense of their moves at the moment. I think they set a price for Maclin and didn't think he would get what he reportedly got, $11 million a year. That's the move that hurts IMO. The rest I can rationalize, though I agree they overpaid for Maxwell is that holds true.

Gore seems like he can remain productive even though he's getting up there in age. I think Sproles is about the same age but they should still make a pretty good committee in Philly.

Gore has had a great 49er career. If he does leave hopefully Carlos Hyde can step up & have a solid career.

Sanchez was better on paper last year than Foles. Just sayin.

I think Foles is almost surely gonna be throwing for someone else this year.

Everyone else in the NFCW is happy to see Gore leave. That alone should say something.

As for the flurry of moves the Eagles are in the midst of, it's far too soon to decide how good or bad it will all be for them. I remember the critics and average fans responses to the moves Carroll and Schneider were doing over their first couple of years. All the way up to starting an undersized rookie QB in their 3rd season over the FA they threw good money at just that same off season.

Chip has everyone's attention. That's for sure. No doubt if his moves don't pan out the fans are going to make sure he hears them loud and clear and he won't have a lot of time to make these changes be productive before that happens.

He's probably got another two good years left.

The Texans might be interested.

I doubt it. They just signed Hoyer and Mallet.

At the beginning of the year Philly's offensive line was beat to hell too. That's the main reason McCoy started out the year slow as well. He couldn't rush for a 100 yards in a game until week 6. Sanchez did have a higher completion percentage but he was also sticking to a much more conservative approach as well. Foles may not be elite but I think his ceiling is much higher than Sanchez.
