NFL Draft & Combine Profile - Brett Toth | NFL.com

An improved offensive line was a major reason the Black Knights improved under head coach Jeff Monken the past two seasons. Toth was a stalwart at the right tackle position, starting all 26 games, 25 at right tackle and one as a sixth lineman/tight end. Army topped Navy for the second straight year in 2017, while also edging out the Midshipmen for the top spot in the NCAA rushing rankings. Toth aided quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw and others racking up 362 yards a game on the ground. He was an all-state tight end from South Carolina when enrolling at West Point. Toth played in just one game as a reserve as a freshman, and started two of four games played in 2015 before becoming an integral part of the line.

Strengths
  • Has room for more mass and muscle
  • Plays with good toughness at the point of attack
  • Fires out with good pad level and rolls hips under hands to lock out his base blocks
  • Has lateral quickness for cut-offs and reach blocks
  • Plus cut-blocker
  • Hustles in space and has athleticism to make it all the way up to safety on backside
  • Keeps eyes on second level targets and adjusts to their sudden, downhill shots
  • Adequate timing on combo blocks
  • Has potential in pass protection
  • Possesses range and agility to handle varied set points with coaching
  • Appeared to carry some natural anchor when matched against Nick Bosa from Ohio State
  • Flexibility helps with redirect blocks for edge rushers that climb around him
Weaknesses
  • Fundamental of pass protection will need work
  • Has relatively low number of pass sets due to design of Army offense
  • Aided by high number of play-action throws
  • Pass slide is more of a long step
  • Opens gate too early allowing room for strong inside charge
  • Edge at the top of the rush appears soft
  • Needs to tighten up target point with his punch and keep hands inside
  • Plays too far forward when mirroring
  • Will have live in the weight room early in his career to add much-needed mass and strength

"I love this potential. Coaches see guys like this as moldable clay who they can build from the ground up because he's disciplined, coachable and athletic. He's the type of player that (Bill) Belichick goes after." -- NFC team area scout

NFL BACKUP OR SPECIAL TEAMS POTENTIAL

6'6" 291lbs. Maybe he'd be better off losing 10 lbs and switching back to TE.
Tough to get signed in mid-August and be handed a spot on the 53 man roster.

He's definitely a good developmental prospect. The next Alejandro Villanueva perhaps.

I am surprised he signed with Philly because the Eagles are absolutely loaded at tackle. He is at best the #6 tackle on the team right now behind Jason Peters, Lane Johnson, Andre Dillard, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, and Jordan Mailata.

But the Eagles have a respected o-line coach, Jeff Stoutland, formerly of Alabama and Miami, and it sounds like he wanted to be coached by him.

I could see a trade coming of one of the Philly backup tackles, but the thing is, they have been playing Vaitai at RG with Brandon Brooks recovering from injury, so not sure which one it would be.

Eagles are overflowing with talent at tackle. Absolutely stacked. Maybe they are thinking guard but 6’6 291 doesn’t sound like a guard at all. Wonder why he wanted to come to us? We need Guards not tackle.

He'll be lucky to make the 53. It will be interesting to see what the three year deal was/is?

Maybe they want him for center:dhd:
