It's gotta be a great gig up until your first game though huh? I mean, new coach in town, everyone's dreaming big. Nothing in the past gets blamed on you.

Apparently not as much of a dumpster fire as one is led to believe if you can land arguably the best (most wanted) candidate for the job....and I was one who was afraid that this franchise was on the edge of disappearing for a long time.

Shanahan wasn't at his best at the end of the biggest game. Should have ran the ball then kick the FG.

His head had to be in San Fran than in Houston

Then again, the league MVP might have made a few plays.

I just wonder who Kyle's next team will be, the one that he will actually succeed with at the NFL level. I don't think the 49ers have have the patience for him to learn on the job, so he will have a few years (3 or 4) and flame out. Then go back to being an o-coordinator for a few years. His second stint as a HC will be better, that's just how things go in the NFL.

Not exactly the situation. Nobody else wanted to wait that long to fill out their coaching staffs. It was the only job left.

Probably hadn't slept much since he realized the only job left for him to take was the Niners'.

Think they got the best (most wanted) candidate for the job of GM as well?

That's on those teams that jumped head first and got their Doug Marrones and Vance Josephs and those types that didn't interest me at all. I'd think Shanahan was at or near the top of everyones wish list.

At this point, no questions about it. Without a doubt the best the franchise could do.

He was, just was "unfortunately" still active in the playoffs. Rams had an interview during his first bye week canceled due to weather issues. Weird that the coach with the most success almost lost out at a chance for advancement entirely this offseason. Niners got a top candidate, but it will be tougher for him to fill out his staff now though.

The trade-off is well worth it. Bottom line is, the hire itself is proof that the Niners still carry a good amount of cache in the league despite the ownerships attempts to scuttle the franchise.

You never know in the NFL. Look at the Falcons - they have been on a steady progression from cellar dweller to .500 to SB team over the last several years (after being a contender for several years prior). 49ers are in the middle of a similar situation to them & it could go in many different directions (good or bad).

Not likely to do well for a while, but if they draft alright & replace some key parts you never know in 2-3 years. You never say never in the NFL.

They gave him and Lynch six year contracts I think......they aren't getting rid of him for at least 4-5 of those years unless they're COMPLETELY incompetent.

For better or worse they hitched their wagons to those two. They better be right.

There's a difference between a team struggling to try and become an upper echelon team and one that is a step away from being the Raiders for a good decade (prior to last couple of years)....a cesspool that players/coaches/FO type people would avoid because of a terrible culture and reputation. That's what was worrisome.

Don't worry because the Falcons replaced him with Steve Sarkisian. So we went from a guy who's play calling in the Super Bowl left you to believe he was drunk to a guy who actually will be drunk. So that's cool lol
