Chip left him plenty of pieces.
Shanahan wasn't at his best at the end of the biggest game. Should have ran the ball then kick the FG.

Apparently not as much of a dumpster fire as one is led to believe if you can land arguably the best (most wanted) candidate for the job....and I was one who was afraid that this franchise was on the edge of disappearing for a long time.

Not exactly the situation. Nobody else wanted to wait that long to fill out their coaching staffs. It was the only job left.
Think they got the best (most wanted) candidate for the job of GM as well?
That's on those teams that jumped head first and got their Doug Marrones and Vance Josephs and those types that didn't interest me at all. I'd think Shanahan was at or near the top of everyones wish list.
Niners got a top candidate, but it will be tougher for him to fill out his staff now though.

I just wonder who Kyle's next team will be, the one that he will actually succeed with at the NFL level. I don't think the 49ers have have the patience for him to learn on the job, so he will have a few years (3 or 4) and flame out. Then go back to being an o-coordinator for a few years. His second stint as a HC will be better, that's just how things go in the NFL.
You never know in the NFL. Look at the Falcons - they have been on a steady progression from cellar dweller to .500 to SB team over the last several years (after being a contender for several years prior). 49ers are in the middle of a similar situation to them & it could go in many different directions (good or bad).
Not likely to do well for a while, but if they draft alright & replace some key parts you never know in 2-3 years. You never say never in the NFL.
