Allbright: Rams "Leading Contender" to Trade for Eagles QB Nick Foles - Turf Show Times

when we last were graced with a Rams-Nick Foles rumor, it was back in late January via a report from NJ.com that had the Rams in the mix along with the Titans and Texans. Come forward a month and a half, and we've got mention #2 via Denver-based radio host Benjamin Allbright:

Allbright's sourced relatively well within the Rams' walls, so there may be a "there" there. How much though?

Why It Makes Sense
The Rams have to get a capable option outside of Sam Bradford on the roster whether that's through the draft or not. Nothing available in free agency constitutes a "capable option." Foles offers a real capability to have an alternative option to Bradford either in case of yet another injury to Bradford or in case of a QB battle that Sam would ultimately lose, hypothetically. In 2013, Foles threw 27 TDs and just 2 interceptions. Your argument is null and void.

Why It Doesn't Make Sense
The only real issue here would be cost. Foles' future seems certain to be headed out of Philly. Would that mean that Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly is legitimately interested in doing whatever it takes to move up to get his former college signal caller Marcus Mariota? Would they need some draft capital from the Rams to pull it off? If so, how much? Allbright clarified that whatever the Rams are offering, it's stronger than it was from the first time this topic came up:

Opportunity costs get clearer closer to the draft. Losing valuable draft capital would bleed the Rams' ability to re-stock the offensive line or add a stronger weapon to the passing game.

Likelihood: 5/10
Bate had it at 4/10 back in January. I'll bump that up a point. The mere mention of it from someone of Allbright's connections lends it additional merit. The question is whether or not he's getting played to manage the market. He seems to feel he's not.

Then again...

Why not? He offers more upside than Davis or Hill.
Plus when Bradford goes down again he can step in and be as good. Maybe he doesn't have the arm talent Sammy has but he's a good option.

I wouldn't give up the farm for him. I'd offer a trade from 10th to 20th and maybe a late round conditional pick. Moving from 20 to 10 is a big jump and the Eagles need to know that.

jac, I just think Philly is gonna want too much for him and you know the Rams track record from March 10th to April 30th.

We were kinda talking about this in the other thread maybe retro can move those over here? A good point was made he will be a FA next year so you don't want to give up to much for him if he might walk.

Yeah I didn't think about that. If they can get a 3 year deal out of Foles that isn't over the top and not give up much in the draft i would be all for it. We'll see tho. 9 out of 10 things we hear this time of year is BS anyways.

TEB you are outside the negativity thread. Don't use those terms. This is your last warning.

That's because I edited out what he really wrote. I have made it abundantly clear how this board works and I continue to have people push the limits. Vacations are always available.

Here's an update to the Rams/Eagles possible trade.

Report: Rams have 'upped their offer' for Nick Foles | Yardbarker.com

By Rachel Wold

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly made an effort to gauge the value of quarterback Nick Foles back at the Senior Bowl. Now, it would appear that both the St. Louis Rams and the Tennessee Titans may have an interest in seeking a trade for Foles.

The Rams currently hold the 10th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. What exactly they would be offering for Foles is unknown at this time, but the offers do appear to competitive.

As for the Tennessee Titans, they possess the second overall pick in the upcoming draft. If they were to give up that pick to the Eagles for Foles, it would put Philadelphia in line to select Marcus Mariota. Kelly has not kept it a secret that the team would attempt to trade up to land Mariota, so a potential deal with the Titans makes sense.

The Eagles also just signed quarterback Mark Sanchez to a two-year deal that with incentives could pay him up to $16 million. That could make Foles more expendable.

If Foles lands in Tennessee, he would compete with second-year quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who showed flashes of potential in his rookie season. Should Foles end up in St. Louis, it would be interesting to see what the Rams would do with an injury-riddled and overpriced Sam Bradford.

Foles has thrown for 6,723 yards with 46 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in his NFL career. He is a decent long-term option for teams that miss out on the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming draft.

Our TV coverage gives us the Eagles every Sunday and I go to 2-3 games per year. In his 1st year starting, Foles had a great year where everything went right. Bad throws ended up in big games. 27 TDs and 2 Ints. His next year he was 13-10 before getting hurt. He made too many bad throws where bad things happened. Too many times he tried to force throws rater than living another day. I think the Eagles are making a mistake if they move Foles to start Sanchez.

If they go after Foles I'm good with it just because it means you can get Bradford's cap hit cut by $13M.

I sure hope we don't give away first round picks for the future. I hope it is a swap and some additional picks this year only at the most or a third rounder and say Pead would be ideal. Foles is better than what we have now but not worth giving away the farm.

The Foles move doesn't make any sense. I'll throw 2 stats in your direction:

QB A: 64.1% comp, 7.83 YPA, 14 TDs, 11 Ints, 88.4 QB Rating
QB B: 59.8% comp, 6.96 YPA, 13 TDSs, 10 Ints, 81.4 QB Rating

QB B is Nick Foles last year.
QB A is Mark "Butt Fumble" Sanchez last year in the same system.

This would not be good for the Rams if we go after Foles

Clayton. Name-calling outside of the Negativity thread is prohibited. You have been warned.

Oh ok. Honestly, Mark Sanchez is a name that should strike terror in the hearts of all football fans. The nickname just makes people laugh while his actual QB play is offensive.

The name-calling is only to inhibit the tendency of Rams fans to trash the Rams. You can do the trashing of anything Rams in the Negativity thread only. Everyone else is open-season. So if you want to rip any other franchise, you are permitted as we all agreed.

Oh, I got ya.

Let me phrase it this way: if we go after Foles then he is our backup option to Bradford because he won't beat out Bradford. How much would you give up in a trade for that?

I agree with you Clayton. I think we have suddenly developed some sort of unnecessary man-love for Foles and we should only give up say a third and Pead for Foles. Swapping firsts and future picks is just not advantageous to the Rams in the long-term.
