Flyers acquire Versteeg

Versteeg for a 1st and a 3rd, just saw on nhl.com, was very surprised i was the first one to comment. I like the move, hopefully now we can solidify the lines going into the playoffs. Whats everyones thoughts?

i like this move. brings in a good young player with cup winning experience. makes our lines even scarier and adds depth if the injury bug comes. hate giving up yet another 1st round pick but i think its for the best if versteeg is part of the future here

JvR-Giroux-Carter and lately Carter-Giroux-Zherdev have been such great lines, I don't see how you can separate Giroux and Carter. Everyone assumes Nodl is the one getting demoted to the 4th line, but I haven't heard anything from the front office or a beat writer suggesting Versteeg is a replacement for Nodl. I think Zherdev is going to be seeing a lot more of the press box and 4th line duty.

Giant elephant in the room: Versteeg is signed through next year as well, so what happens to Leino?

Absolutely love the move. I think he is the perfect addition to this team. Has cup experience and capable of putting up 20+ goals. Captain Mike better wake up now that he has a scorer playing alongside him finally.

Ander, I don't see how this does anything but put pressure on Leino to sign. THey still have financial room for him, and if Leino wants to play hardball, Versteeg is another young player that can be relied on. Different skill set, but I love the move. And we don't need a first rounder this year. THe core of this team is so young, that we can handle a few lean years on the farm. Soon though, a few young guys on the Phantoms will be nice.

Homer can't be done as we now have 2 extra forwards. Maybe Nodl gets sent down for now. The guys on the NHL channel on Sirius were saying great move by Homer.

Did not remember that he is only 24 and will still be a RFA at end of this k. This is the one the Hawks GM screwed up by not submitting the paper work so they had to overpay to keep him. I still think he will be an RFA.
