80's- Bird, Magic competition
90's- Malone, Stockton, Webber, Jason Williams (white one), Reggie, Grant Hill
00's- Shaq, Big Z, Lebron, Duncan
10's- Lebron
1940's: Chuck Conners. - The ultimate renaissance man. 6'7 Bball player; WWII Veteran; Shakespear scholar who would perform for the team on train rides; and finished his career as The Rifleman! Never saw him play but I saw his show.
1950's: Bill Sharman. - I love a guy who can NEVER miss a free throw. Plus, in a decade dominated by big men, this guy was by far the best guard of the era.
1960's: Jerry West. - Pretty much the best at whatever he has decided to do, then and now.
1970's: Pistol Pete Maravich. - This one was pretty easy. Best ball handler of all time. Plus, the thread didn't say best NBA players, just best players. This guy was the absolute best college player who has ever graced the planet. Dude averaged 44.2 pts per game in his career. The all time leading scorer even though he couldn't play as a freshman and before the 3pt line. NBA career was pretty damn impressive as well.
1980's: Magic Johnson. - Enough said.
1990's: Shaquille O'Neal. - Dude dominated 2 decades. Even though he brought my Lakers 3 titles in the next decade, he deservingly belongs in both and the 2000's is reserved for another. Only C who could ever compare to him in domination would be Wilt.
2000's: Kobe "The Black Mamba" Bryant. - As the game has ever increasingly become pussified, Kobe is one of the few old school players left. 81 points. 5 Rings. And he's not done yet.
2010's: Kevin Durant. - Loved him at Texas. Have loved him in the pros. Dude genuinely seems like a class act, in a league full of entitled punks. Also his talent is unquestionable.
70's Dr. J, David Thompson
80's Jordan, Barkley, but #1 was Andrew Toney (Would have been a hall of famer)
90's Nick Van Exel, Iverson, Rasheed Wallace
2000's Stopped watching NBA and turned solely to NFL
