Agree here. Think we see a different Lawrence going forward.
Same, and I meant to say as much to @Trudem, but got busy and didn't get back to it.

Anyone who can win a SB with Nick Foles, and its not like he won those final few regular season games, went on a playoff run and won the SB with dominating defense either, he had a fully functional offense with Foles, but, anyone who can do that, with Nick friggin Foles, is worthy of the benefit of the doubt when it comes to exploiting strengths available to him.

ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio reports that multiple teams are willing to trade for DeShaun Watson with civil cases still pending.

Watson faced both criminal and civil complaints. Watson's lawyer said in court that he expects the grand jury to make a decision on any criminal charges by April 1. The level of those charges (felony or misdemeanor) should also be known at that time. Watson also faces civil cases from 22 women. There is no clear timeline on when those charges will be resolved. However, Florio reports that multiple teams are willing to trade for Watson with civil cases still pending. Meaning, if Watson's criminal cases are resolved by early April, his trade market could heat up, even while 22 civil complaints remain unresolved. The Texans are reportedly still looking for five to seven assets for Watson, including three first-round picks.

That's the key right there..doesn't matter a lick about him getting all the complainants to settle, its the criminal cases that are the issue. Unfortunately for Watson, and his Dynasty/keeper owners, those are also the ones that Watson has little to no control over getting resolved as well. the one thing he could control? plead guilty or negotiate a plea bargain to lesser charges..barring that, his future is in the hands of DA's for now. Even if he does get all 22 to settle, doesn't mean any single one of the ten criminal cases magically go away. Chances are, that if the 'victims' aren't cooperating, they won't have a case and they'll drop it, but, there's nothing that says they have to. If they feel they have a case that they can prosecute successfully, they will proceed throughout a trial if needed. And in what world would ten criminal cases, which haven't even really begun in earnest be settled by April, less than two months from now? Traffic court doesn't even operate that fast, let alone felony levels of sexual assault cases.

I just find it weird that so often whenever you hear a Watson update, they always mention that he's almost got all the civil suits settled except one or two..but that's not even what the biggest problem is.

depends on who u believe

Pro Football Network reports there is "no specific timetable" on Deshaun Watson's sexual assault cases.

Facing 22 civil lawsuits, Watson is also the subject of "10 active criminal complaints." As such, his trade market remains in a "holding pattern." Aaron Wilson reports the Texans "would prefer to have closure on this issue before the start of free agency on March 16," but there appears to be almost no shot of that happening. In the criminal case, there has yet to be any "DNA, audio, or video evidence submitted or discovered by Houston Police detectives." The civil case, meanwhile, could be "pushed back to a later date due to the fact that not all 22 of the complainants have been deposed." Trade rumors have come and gone, but the deeply troubling underlying facts that have prevented anything happening for the past year remain.

I don't see how anything in that blurb is contradictory to anything in the other...

Well Well Welcome to Canada....

Elks sign former NFL wide receiver Bryant

The Edmonton Elks are banking on the second time being the charm with Martavis Bryant.

Edmonton signed the veteran American receiver Monday. Bryant signed a deal last year with the Toronto Argonauts but never reported to the team and was released in December.

Bryant, 30, last played football in 2018.

Bryant spent five seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2014-17) and Oakland Raiders (2018), registering 145 catches for 2,183 yards and 17 TDs in 44 career games. But he was also suspended several times for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

The six-foot-four, 210-pound Bryant played collegiately at Clemson and was taken in the fourth round, No. 118 overall, by Pittsburgh in the 2014 NFL draft.

Ugh. Offseason talk.

A notch above coachspeak?

I dunno, maybe...

ESPN Cardinals reporter Josh Weinfuss believes impending free agent Christian Kirk is going to have a "hot market" after speaking with people at this week's Combine.

The Combine is generally a good week to gauge other teams' interest in upcoming free agents, so this is definitely possible. Kirk is entering his prime at 25 years old and is coming off his best year yet after posting 77-982-5 on 103 targets across 17 healthy games. It was his first full season to date. The free-agent market as a whole doesn't look all that strong, so it wouldn't be shocking to see a bidding war for Kirk. He's probably looking for at least the $12.5 million annually Corey Davis got from the Jets last offseason.

More coachspeak.

Coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks are "hopeful" they can re-sign impending free agent Rashaad Penny.

“Hopefully we can get him back," said Carroll, who also said Penny would like to be back with Seattle. Finally healthy and given a chance to be the No. 1 back with Chris Carson (neck) injured in the second half of last season, Penny was one of the best running backs in the NFL. Penny went 92-671-6 on the ground over the final five weeks and played himself into a big pay day. Carson's future is uncertain, but he and Penny would make for a nice backfield tandem. Penny needs to be given a longer look as a 1A, however. He's a monster big-play threat with the ball in his hands.

I love how they make it sound like the WR free agent market is a desolate wasteland where Kirk will be some hot commodity due to lack of options.

Godwin, Adams, ARob, Mike Wiliams, Gallup, Will Fuller, Crowder, JuJu, DJ Chark, Manny Sanders, hell, TY and AJ Green could still be a #2 for a lot of teams..and a dozen other dudes who are plenty competent enough to be a realistic option.

I like Kirk, I think he'd be a great #2 somewhere, as long as there's someone better on the opposite side of the field. Now..how many teams are there out there that need one of those, and unless Kirk comes significantly cheaper, why would someone go after him over most of those other names to fill that spot.

If you find yourself in a bidding war for Kirk, first off, congrats on not making the mistake of over spending for Fuller or Gallup, but just pivot, go to Chark, or Crowder, or Cedric Wilson, or Albert Wilson.

Penny is an odd duck...3 and a half years of more or less nothing, and its not like he didn't have his chances, Chris Carson missed a lot of time in there, giving him plenty of opportunities that resulted in diddly sqwat, and then he puts together a 4 out of 5 game run where he looks like Barry freakin' Sanders. Tough to put a bead on it.

I think it's worth noting that those 4 teams-HOU, CHIC, DET, and ARZ..finished ranked 30th, 22nd, 28th, and 20th vs the run. Conversely, his highest yardage total was against the best one of those, so there's that. And his one stinker of the five, the Rams, finished #6

Uh oh @TREFF

New Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said there's "no doubt" Derek Carr will be the team's 2022 starter at quarterback.

The Raiders had been giving every indication they felt this way, but McDaniels is officially just coming out and saying it. Better than Andy Dalton but still not a true franchise cornerstone type player, Carr presents something of a conundrum for coaches, though he is definitely a good fit for the kind of high-efficiency, paper-cut offense McDaniels was a part of in New England. Carr took a step forward under Jon Gruden and could have further to go under McDaniels. The next order of business is sorting out Carr's deal, as he isn't going to head into the final year of his contract without an adjustment. Carr could be cut with zero cap hit, but that is clearly not going to happen.

@TREFF - Some better news.

New Raiders coach Josh McDaniels has called Hunter Renfrow "a big part of what we want to do."

"I have been really blessed to be around some really good slot receivers in my time, and I think coaching him is going to be one of those endeavors where you look back on it and go, ‘This guy was one of those guys,'" McDaniels said at the Combine. McDaniels isn't kidding that he has been around some great slot men. More importantly, it has also been a huge part of McDaniels/the Patriots' offensive attack. Hugely productive when forced into a bigger role last season by injury to Darren Waller and Henry Ruggs' release, Renfrow might not continue at his torrid post-Thanksgiving 2021 pace, but he is probably firmly established as an every-week WR3 going forward, with WR2 a real possibility.

It's an option. Trying to talk Drew Brees out of retirement is an option.

Hell, giving Archie Manning a call is an option.

Even giving me a call is an option. ;)

Saints GM Mickey Loomis has confirmed re-signing impending free agent Jameis Winston is "an option."

“Jameis is an option for us and we hope we’re an option for Jameis," were Loomis' exact words. With Bruce Arians ruling out a Jameis/Bucs reunion, returning to New Orleans definitely makes the most sense from Winston's perspective, and probably the Saints', as well. The question is if they will pair him with a rookie signal caller as they try to fight their way out of the post-Drew Brees/Sean Payton wilderness. Winston's market is complicated by his recovery from a torn ACL, though he seems to be on pace in his rehab.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Cowboys are "likely" to release Amari Cooper.

Schefter's report comes a day after the Dallas Morning News' Michael Gehlken speculated Dallas would not retain Cooper in 2022. Due $20 million in guaranteed money, Cooper will probably be released before March 20. Neither team owner Jerry Jones nor his son, Stephen, have publicly supported Cooper after the Cowboys' devastating postseason loss to the 49ers. Outside of a handful of big statistical games over his three years in Dallas, Cooper never lived up to the dominant alpha wideout status the Joneses had expected when they acquired him. Cooper's release would likely mean the Cowboys are leaning toward re-signing Michael Gallup to be the team's No. 2 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb. Cooper's absence would leave about 25 percent of the team's targets vacated -- enough to fuel hopes for a true breakout campaign for Lamb in 2022. Cooper, meanwhile, could be a target hog if he lands in an offense without a true No. 1 receiver

The right move financially, the wrong move for winning football games.
