Cruz also received a second PRP injection in his balky calf three weeks ago and admits he can start to feel it help advance the healing process. Running routes against air is very early in the rehab process, but the team just wants to see Cruz cut and plant his foot in the ground. After that, Cruz could progress to individual work. Last week, Cruz said he's targeting a Week 12 return.

Called this one early on..wasn't hard. Patellar tendon teats are no laughing matter. And the calf injury is connected, directly or indirectly. Guys isn't playing this year, should've been placed on IR 10 weeks ago

The New Orleans Saints will fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on the heels of a third straight game in which the team surrendered at least 34 points, FOX Sports' Alex Marvez reports.

Ryan's defense was shredded by the Kirk Cousins-led Washington Redskins on Sunday, allowing Cousins to throw a career-high four touchdowns en route to a 47-14 drubbing.

Two weeks prior, the Saints allowed Eli Manning to throw a career-high six touchdown passes, escaping with an improbable 52-49 win only thanks to Drew Brees' seven touchdown passes.

Ryan, the twin brother of Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan and son of famed coach Buddy Ryan, joined the Saints in 2013.

Ryan's first year in charge of the Saints defense showed promise, but the subsequent seasons saw the team fall to near the bottom of the league in many major defensive categories.

Through 10 weeks this season, the Saints rank dead last in yards per game and points per game allowed.
