Irv's been practicing with the first team and has been moved all over the place. It seems the Vikings are indeed working on a two TE/multi-faceted type of offense, like the 'niners are doing.
hmm good to know, i like irv, he seems like he could be a monster, not quite the level of OJ howard, but yeah

I don't plan on having a Eagle RB on any of my FF rosters, that is what works for me.
Sure, shorten your board. Don't take value when it presents itself.

You're only drafting from a weaker pool of talent than the rest of us.

I like him too, but remember...this is mini camp. Let's wait 'till maxi camp. Well hell, maybe we should wait 'till the beginning of the season. :D:D:D

Vikings re-sign TE Kyle Rudolph (4 years, $36 million): D Grade
Umm... what? It seemed as though the Vikings were going to trade Kyle Rudolph after selecting Irv Smith Jr. in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. It made sense to deal him, as Rudolph turns 30 in November and has been declining in recent years.

Apparently, not. The Vikings have given Rudolph a new contract worth $9 million per season. It really doesn't make any sense. Minnesota, a team with severe financial issues, had a nice, very cheap replacement in Smith, yet it has paid an aging player at a low-impact position an absurd amount of money. I don't understand this move at all, and it should be graded very poorly.

So in your opinion, does this mean more blocking for Rudolph and less targets?

Yep, and I agree about it not making sense. My thought (wrong as it may be) is that they signed him to trade him. Otherwise, someone else is gonna go. I dunno, our GM Rick Spielman is a frickin' genius in his own mind...

I'd like to think that they signed him to a FOUR FREAKIN' YEAR DEAL for his outstanding prowess. However, I think, yes, this year at least, he's there to help Captain Kirk. Did they sign him to trade him? Maybe. I just know my boys have some kinks to work out on the administrative side for this season. :noidea::noidea::noidea:

@eaglesnut - Your opinion on Jeffrey?

Nothing would surprise me. On the negative side, he's often injured and they drafted his eventual replacement. But if he puts it all together and has the best year of his career that would feel natural.

Ertz and Desean aren't the redzone guys. Alshon is. Carson gonna throw a lot of TDs.

I guess I don't see the big shock. A rookie TE, ANY rookie TE, can't be expected to be THE guy on a team expecting to be a SB contender. No matter how fast they pick up the offensive system, no matter how good the may have been at blocking in college, its just not realistic to expect them to know the line adjustments, the chip assignments, the audibles, the route adjustments. You'll end up with an IR'ed QB and a crappy run game.

Sure they could've signed a cheaper vet, but why, when you've got a guy already in the system ready to go?

I would imagine Irv Smith is likely gonna be the new Dallas Goedart, on a team that has forgotten how to utilize the position. Assuming he's even worth his draft stock and isnt just another high round TE bust

True - so it's safe to assume you won't be using a pick on him. .... :D

Jaron Brown has drawn some rave reviews for his practices and conditioning this offseason. Some reports have said that Brown has been "unbelievable" in OTAs. In the wake of Doug Baldwin's retirement, someone will need to step up across from Tyler Lockett, and it seems as though Brown is the early favorite.

Christian Kirk has been the best receiver on the Cardinals this offseason, according to Albert Breer. This is obviously saying a lot because Larry Fitzgerald is still on the team. Kirk flashed as a rookie last season, so with some experience and a better quarterback throwing to him, he could have a strong 2019 campaign.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling drew heavy praise from Aaron Rodgers recently. Rodgers said that Valdes-Scantling has enjoyed a "fantastic spring." Furthermore, Valdes-Scantling has quickly picked up Matt LaFleur's system, per Albert Breer. Valdes-Scantling is currently poised to be the No. 3 receiver in Green Bay, which means he'll be a major fantasy factor as long as Rodgers is healthy.

right. The "shells and shorts" puff pieces generally do little more than create heartaches

But DeVante Parker has been the dolphins best receiver in practices again, he has to hit this time around!

(I'm too lazy to change the text green, sorry Sam)

What would that be, 4th times the charm? 5th? Poor guy, just makes me wonder what it is that doesn't click for him. At least he isnt the typical ultra talented idiot who throws it all away with drugs or other issues

JAMES CONNERRB, PITTSBURGH STEELERS

James Conner expects the Steelers to "spread out" backfield touches "pretty evenly."
Conner was used as a workhorse when healthy last season, but the emergence of Jaylen Samuels while Conner was injured could lead to more of a timeshare moving forward. Pittsburgh could also look to use the two backs in tandem, which they reportedly experimented with during the offseason program. Conner is still the favorite for carries, but he will likely lose at least some passing-down snaps to Samuels.

Well, those guys have to write about something. ... the real truth is usually something different. Actually (and this is a total guess) if they want to get Samuels involved in the passing game - they put him in the slot, or as a second TE, more. A lot of targets missing with Brown gone. ...
