A win today albeit not against a good team. The defense showed up, again. Give it up for Tress F'n Way will ya? Great ST. The offense has to get better. We cannot beat good teams having an anemic passing game. It's all about balance and if we can somehow game plan Hieneke into 240-250 yards passing with using his legs to get out of the pocket since he throws well on the run, continue pounding the rock with BR & AG for 120+ this team is definitely a tough out. Keep it going Redskins!

He does just enough which is okay if the team is winning. It is a luxury to win when your QB passes for 138 yards.

I did a little research after seeing one of links dad posted about TH being 10-4 in his last 14 games. There was that winning streak in the middle of last year when the D got it turned around, followed by a 4 game losing streak when the D got banged up and he is 5-1 when the D is playing near the top of the league starting which started the week before his first start this year. Also coincides with one of Wentz's two wins.

I don't mean to rag on TH. The D and run game are his best friends and as mentioned he is doing just enough to win. As I have said before this is a team sport and the TEAM is winning. We all like when the Redskins win. Lets keep it up.

It is George Allen and Alex Smith football.
Sportster, your point is well taken. TH is not a starting caliber QB. In fact, he will most likely cost us an important game in the near future. His arm is a noodle and he is often late on his throws. But I just don’t see wentz as being better. Wentz is a drive killer. while he can make all the throws, he is just not a play maker. So, we are where we are. I sat keep riding the hot horse until he drops.

I think this is what some don’t get. Wentz is capable of having big games occasioanally, far better than TH throwing the ball. The problem is Wentz’s consistency. He doesn’t consistently throw he ball well. When he is not throwing the ball, which is most of the time, he is unable to sustain drives. Sure he can hand the ball off, just like TH; however, when he is called on to throw the ball, his pocket awareness and inability to move, even subtlety, costs us valuable distance and puts us in a position to have to throw again. This leads to a much higher percentage of three and outs which hurts our defense as they do not get a rest to carry the team.

100% agree j_y .... you can't take TH out now.

Not sure that Wentz adds anything if he did play. Potential for more points is there but right now they are winning with a game manager.

This is all true. Also, some don’t get that opposing defenses have to prepare, and account for, Taylor as he can run. This is not a concern with Wentz.

Heinicke has rushed for 61 yards and a 2.9 average.
Wentz has rushed for 79 yards and a 4.2 average.

:noidea:

Okay, so maybe we aren't as good as I thought.

Feels like we are building a house of cards with Heinicke, but he just keeps stacking them higher and higher and they refuse to fall.

My fear is a quality playoff team is gonna walk in the room and kick the whole thing down.

By sticking with Heinicke, Ron is doing the right thing and the only thing he can do right now.

Robinson Jr. looks like a steal. What will he look like with a couple of young road graders in front of him next year. Appears Ron didn't fully trust Gibson on a wet day. Williams is a guy they have to get under contract for next year. I've always like him.

Offensive line was actually pretty good. Norwell had a tough day, but no complaints.

I gave this team hell when they drafted Bates. I was wrong. Bates had a TD and made a beautiful grab on the other one that he got pushed out of bounds on. Destroyed some poor cornerback on that one run to the left.

Dotson got off to a really good start then got injured and just hasn't really bounced back. You see Olave and Garrett Wilson lighting things up now.

However, we did get Robinson Jr. in the trade back and it appears that Heinicke prefers McLaurin. Remember Dotson was Wentz's guy. Maybe that has something to do with it. I expect him to get back on track.

Not much to say about the front five. They need to pay Payne. He saved the game. Sweat leads the team in sacks. Allen might be all-pro. I wouldn't play Chase until after the bye.

Davis had 11 tackles I think. Looks like a first rounder out there. I was excited to get Mayo back because of how Bostic struggled in coverage last week. Mayo was worse. They are gonna have to continue to play the three safeties as much as possible until Cole gets back.

Kendall Fuller! Playing really well of late. Saved the game with that interception. Stole a week of rest for St. Juste. McCain switching to slot has helped, but this team still needs a long and rangy corner or a true slot corner in the offseason.

Safeties really weren't tested by Mariota.

Next two games probably determine our season. Jones and Barkley could present the same problems Atlanta did today. I hope Ron, JDR, and Scot have a plan for that.

At the risk of repeating myself TH is not throwing to Dotson or Samuel. Dotson still leads WR in TD catches.

No I wasn't trying to bang on Dotson in any way. It just seems with Wentz in there he was headed toward OROTY consideration. The injury and the Qb change, it feels like he's become an afterthought. Scott gave him a reverse. Seems like Scott wants Dotson involved.

I didn't think you were ragging on him. I made this comment the last two weeks. TH leans on Terry, TEs and RBs. He has done that for two years. Everybody can't get the ball.

Well, there goes that theory……
Not really, you still have to account for TH's legs when game planning on defense as he can burn you. He won't be running the read option like Mariota but that crap will eventually get your QB injured. Just ask RGKnee.

Except decade after decade, there are exceptions to needing balance and winning with defense and running.
