You're expecting Semin to take quite a pay cut then, huh? And less years than he wants?

cmon elo, you know everyone signs with the pens for discount just for the chance to play with The Chosen One.

If Semin thinks he's getting a raise or going to make 6.7M next season he must be thinking about playing in the KHL. Because if any team in the NHL gives him that kind of money their GM is an IMBECILE.

So all 30 teams are in the running?

They did Clarkson.

I don't know anything about this guy. What's he like as a player?

Seems like this signing is designed for depth for the farm to me.

7th rounder that was in and out of the lineup 2-3 years ago. He mostly sat as a 7th Dman in the NHL. decent offensive instincts. Last I heard of him, he was out of hockey for personal reasons and I thought he had retired from professional hockey. I wish him well but don't expect him to play in the NHL again.

if its for 1 year, and the flyers dont do anything else.. i'd probably give him 6.7 for a year.. why the hell not? i think a lot of teams are kinda gearing up for next offseason (flyers included)..

if you dont use this year's cap space though, it goes to waste!

worst case scenario, you waste 6.7 mil of ed snider's money on a guy you end up benching/waiving. he'll recover.

I'd be fine with that. ;)

I would submit an offer based on what he produced last year, not over the course of his career. One or two years, $4m at the most.

Wait, that would mean I'd be trying to put him on the Penguins! :tape:

Players beginning to take KHL cash: Niklas Hagman and Tim Stapleton sign over there. NHL market for depth guys is very, very slow right now.

Wow, he's dropping even more?!? Look, I'm not a fan of Alex Semin (I've made that clear), but let me fill you in on a couple things. First, if you think a guy that has probably is somewhere just outside the top 10 in goals scored in the last five years is going to go for $4-5 million AND only one or two years, you are insane.

Here are Parise's stats since 05-06 - 194 G, 216 A
Here are Semin's stats since 06-07 - 197 G, 211 A

Semin is not a disappointing player because he isn't VERY productive. He's disappointing because if you watch him you know he has the skills to be among the league's elite, but isn't for whatever reason. So the $4-5 million talk for one or two years is insane.

I'm sure the Caps were willing to sign (rumors were they even offered) another year at around the $6.7 million he was paid. But he wants a multi-year deal. I'm sure he'd sign for somewhere closer to $5 million if it's a long-term (6-10 years) you are talking about. For less than 5 years, I'm guessing he gets at least $6mil per and could be high 6s if he plays his cards right. How many 40-goal scorers are out there right now?

So stop with the "I'd take him for one year at $4mil." Of course you would, b/c that's not a realistic valuation. And no contract is ever based on just one year - it's one of many factors. That's why Parise didn't sign for only $4mil even though he has only 34 goals in 2 seasons. And since like some fans on here, Shero likes to make unrealistic valuations, I'm guessing he won't be a Penguin. Frankly, Islanders would be a great fit for him, but I doubt they're buying.

I strictly base it off of last years performance. Not bad, but not elite. Most 20 goal scorers get about $3-4m, correct?

Teddy Purcell just got 3 years at $4.5M per and he doesn't have half the track record as Semin. There's no way Semin would sign a 1 or 2 year contract worth $4M. He could get way more in the NHL AND KHL.

On a 2 year deal, a team would have to pay around $6M per at least imhumbleo.

Zach Parise after his injury year signed for $6M with the Devils.

Zach Parise has never been called 'lazy.'

I'm sure that you can tell that I really don't want Semin on my team, but I would take him for the production that he put out last year. I would never pay him based on expected potential.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and that bitch gets to apologize to Crosby.

I would just point that out then (my apologies if you did earlier in the thread), or at least put a smiley face so we know you're kidding. Lazy players still get huge contracts.....you should probably know one of them really well as #27 from the recent past.

If talented, but lazy guys never got good/big contracts, then Alexei Yashin has the best agent ever.

Here's my thinking on Semin. He does not just want money, he wants to win. I think if he wanted money, he would've accepted the 30 mil KHL deal. 10 mil per. Potentially he still might, I may have him wrong... but I'm going on the assumption that he wants to win. Many teams are under the cap floor and need to take on some money, that could be Semin, but again, if he just wanted money, I think he would have left for the KHL. Contending teams, teams I assume Semin wants to play on, probably won't take a chance on a long term deal with semin... two things:

1.) sign the highest dollar amount (prob long term to non contender)
2.) sign a short term cap friendly contract, prove yourself on a winning team, and get resigned.

Again, my assumptions are based on the fact he did not take the KHL deal, to me, meaning, not about money.

I can see Semin taking a 2 yr deal around 10mil, playing on a good team, to raise his value... or again, go to the KHL or sign a long term deal on a non contender... I just can't see a power house team signing semin to a long term deal, and if he just wanted money, he would be gone by now.

PS: My couch is comfy.
