@News1130Sports
Shane Doan's agent Terry Bross just told CKWX that the #Canucks are very much in the mix for his client.
Bross tells CKWX that Doan has held talks with Lawrence Gillman and the #Canucks and they are on his list of desired destinations.

It’s July 9, do you know where your Shane Doan is? | Backhand Shelf | Blogs | theScore.com

lol, Bross is driving up the price for his client (as he should be).....David Pollack (Sharks writer for the San Jose Mercury News) just tweeted that he has been contacted by the Sharks and that there is a "strong mutual interest" between Doan and the Sharks.

I hope Alex Semin doesn't end up on the Pens, that would be awful. I don't think that the change of scenery is the issue though. Semin is a flawed individual, and you are correct, he's not just another lazy Russian, he's far more lazy and enigmatic and inexplicable than even your most puzzling Russian player. Also, I'm a shade offended... fuck the notion that Pittsburgh does everything so right that all they need to do is show Semin the right way to do things and he'll be great. I like the Pens' fans on here, but FUCK that attitude. Last I checked, both teams have only won two playoff series the last 3 years.

On a lighter note, the fake Alex Semin on Twitter is hilarious. A few nuggets from today...

-It's 4:30 am. I'm at Kettler for the start of ‪#CapsDevCamp‬. Is 1st rd draft pick Forsberg here this early? Didn't think so. ‪#SashaCares‬

-Is that a sex position? MT @Lan17dry I hope the Semin talk is a rumor. He's doesn't fit the Penguin style.

Oh calm down, I said ANY change of scenery, didn't say Pittsburgh was the only option. I just think he feels like DC has given up on him, and wants to prove himself. Would I like him on my team as a potential high risk high reward situation? Yeah. That could pay off very well...doesn't mean I don't think he'll be successful elsewhere. Those guys on TSN were awful harsh on the guy. Coach killer? Last I checked he wasn't the only reason Boudreau was let go, and heck Hunter left on his own.

The Red Wings do everything so well, so right, I think all Semin needs to do is come play in Detroit and he would be a 50 goal, 100 point, +50 winger. Hell after a year in Detroit he could probably go back to Washington and become captain.

No YOU calm down!!! ;) Semin can't be a coach killer. That would imply he is a malcontent in some way. Being a malcontent would imply some type of emotions, and we all know Semin doesn't have any. Has DC given up on him? No. A lot of people here still like Semin. (okay, go ahead, get it out of your systems...) But he has as good of a hands as ANY guy in the NHL, and he has never lived up to his potential of offense, to say nothing for his defensive/penalty deficiencies. And the said thing is all he needs to do is move his legs and he could be a great defender. But he defends lazy, so he takes minors instead, although he did much better on the D side of the puck under Hunter. But still disappointing on offense.

list is about a dozen teams, apparently.
I don't hold much expectation, because someone will overpay and it won't be us.
of course, that's what i said about Garrison :loco:

also, our ninja/contract guy Lawrence Gilman has been pretty close to Doan since his years in Winnipeg.

I just saw a tweet that im worried hits the nail on the head

canucks are about to "mats sundin" Doan

imo i would consider going to 5 because with all this interest in him, 4 mill wont get it done

but absolutely positively NO TERM

I'm guessing he'll easily get $5M+ from either NYR or PIT... just not sure he'll want to go that far from home but sounds like he might want to get paid so if that's the most he can get, ...

Since Doan knows this is probably his last big payday in the NHL, I'm guessing he is looking for either 4 years in the $4.5-5.0 million range or 3 years well over $5 million. And I'm guessing that some GMs are willing to pay that, but would prefer a 1- or 2-year deal. In the end, the GM from some contender (or the Coyotes themselves) will probably bite the bullet on a longer contract because the upside for the next year or two outweighs the drawbacks. I'll guess he gets $19 million for 4 years from the Coyotes, Wings, or Hawks.

It's too bad that the Stanley Cup will be awarded before anyone signs.

I just think he can be had for less depending on the market ... Ill compare him again to Ray Whitney ... similar age ... similarly their "last big paydays" in the NHL ... BUT ...

Whitney has won a cup before ... financially ruined by bad investment ... needed the big payday ... when someone with a big contract came signing he just wanted to know where his pen was

Doan hasnt won before ... i think for him now its more about situation than money ... he wants to be on a legit contender and somewhere his family would be happy ... maybe somewhere close to his offseason home in Kamloops BC where his wife is from ... maybe ???

Only 2-3 teams would warrant serious interest on Doan’s part, Bross said. Location, management/players and Cup chances are all factors.

Based on tweets from @pgshelly, @reallisa and @HeleneStJames, those three teams could be Pittsburgh, LA and Detroit.

According to Shane Doan’s agent, Terry Bross, the #Blackhawks have shown interest in the veteran free-agent forward.

Shane Doan’s agent Terry Bross just told CKWX that the #Canucks are very much in the mix for his client.

Remember Shane, if you can't beat them, join them. You've tried several times to beat Detroit, now it's time to join them...

hopefully he watched the canucks wings game Feb 23rd :yo:

as for location : Doan = Kamloops Blazers part owner > wants to be closer to that franchise so he can take trips up there and roll in a bed of cash, mike commodore style

Rangers signed forward Jeff Halpern on Tuesday to a one-year contract reportedly worth $700,000.

I think Doan is using the Canucks to drive up his price. if any team West it will be Calgary. Its a perfect town for him and perfect line mates as well. if it comes to money it will be Cgy if they have Cap Space. if comes to winning he may choose Vancouver. I also think Edm is intriguing however with the young talent and need for Vets...

However Im not sure if Van can win a cup with this team depends on Luongos return we have no stud Dman our PP went to crap and the same coaching staff means the same plan and most importantly we have no value on bottom 6 forwards nor our bottom 2 D this is a huge area that wins you cups. We got that in 2011 its gone now. Our top 6 is pretty much the same and older. The Loss to LA last year was telling for the franchise but I guess anything can happen if Doan wants to win he should go to Pitts for 1 year less $$. then sign after back in Pho if they are still there so he can go back to his Ranch

LA is best in West as I dont think it was fluke they had that run It would be good signing there but they dropped $3M+ on Penner can they afford Doan?

The Semin thing was all from that original rumor, still don't think it has legs.
