Since Doan probably won't sign with the Penguins, I'd expect them to wait on a winger. Crosby's still putting up an elite points per game total, so I wouldn't sign someone just for the sake of making a signing. It also gives them a tremendous amount of room near the deadline. A defenseman is obviously the big short-term need.

Looking back, outside of the Flyers series, was the defense really that bad? I feel like too many people are basing that whole core just on a bad series. Fleury had a bad series, no one is talking about replacing him. Malkin had a rough one too. In the end, I think it was worth it to not overpay Suter, because that's a long time to be locked up to a guy that isn't named Shea Weber.

They should be. He's had three mediocre regular seasons and three straight playoffs with a save percentage below .900. Very overrated, imo. And I think signing Vokoun is definitely an indication that management is concerned.

I just want something to happen. We all just assumed things would pick up after Parise and Suter signed but they really havent.

Good thing - I'm sure Mason would have been floored by the arbitrator's ruling if he waited that long.

This is probably a discussion for a different thread, but let's just say that I'm still more than comfortable with Fleury in meaningful games.

It has been a really slow off-season, which is strange because there are a lot of big names potentially on the move. For me, it couldn't get any more boring than last year when Brad Richards was the headliner. Nothing against him, but Parise, Nash and Luongo trump that individually to me.

He's only lost 1 of 3 series against you guys. ;)

He's definitely not carrying the team recently, but I wonder how much of that is him and how much is a product of the defense in front of him. You can say the same thing about Bryzgalov, too. And then I realize that the Pens (and Flyers) defense has gotten worse in the offseason...

Let's just say they might need to add another digit to the scoreboards if the Flyers play the Pens in the playoffs again.

Cheers to a game 7 next time! :drink:

Mason was looking at a 15% pay decrease but thanks to his commission on reeling in JGarrison they gave him a break and only cut his salary 8.5 %

I hope Shane Doan signs here. We've spent the last few years defneding diving. It's time to go back to defending actual cheap shots.

Yeah, my team wouldn't know what that was like. :frusty: :L
