What we really need to do is take care of Seattle next week and hope the Twinkies / Angels split the 4 game series against each other. ( the Houston series has already been covered, need 2, want 3.)

We cannot promise the continued success against them. When you are chasing number one every bit helps. Texas was already winning so Anaheim wouldn't have picked up any ground...
While I agreed with that statement I would prefer to be close to as few teams as possible at the end. To the point where it is definitely 1st or WC. Don't want to be close to Houston, LA and Minnesota.

Glad to see Ranger bats wake up esp Beltre. I really don't care about LAA meltdown or Astro miracle. We just need to take care of business. Choo is on his game offensively. You know everyone wants to dump Choo and Prince because the "stock" is high. I hope they do well now and not gonna worry about doom and gloom forecast that they and their contracts will be anchors to the team.

Yeah Bennie of course I saw this little dialogue. I am not against moving them if you get value. Just not been an advocate of just eating a bunch of money. I am also very interested in seeing how this season plays out first. Yes in the long run we could have a logjam at DH I have faith things will change as they need to change which is for now is down the road. BTW Lucas did not think Rua would come up for the LHP which I thought. Although he surely did underwhelm on the big stage precipitating crazy move putting Nap in LF. Wonder if Nap has a clue re cut offs etc. I am sure I can be quite predictable as many are on this board and outside in Twittterdom.

When you got Choo and Fielder you were banking on them giving you 3-4 great years while the window was open. I really doubt they are moved until they get an offer that's irresistible to give up.

I can see them possibly moving Choo if they don't have to eat too much $, but I think prince is probably around for most of the years on his contract. Maybe AB moves to 1st for 2016 and Mitch may be the odd man out? Could be a youth movement coming soon. Gallo, Mazara, Profar, Brinson, should be on deck. Guaranteed to be fun to watch!

I do think this offseason will be the best time to trade Choo. I doubt he ever has as much value as he will this offseason.

Who would give you the most production at 1B in 2016, Beltre or Mitch? I would think Mitch would give you more production. Of course you would have to factor in who you could bring back in trade for Mitch.

I don't think there ever has been or ever will be a threat of getting an irresistible offer for either one of them.

My problem with acquiring them was I thought we needed more than them to open the window and getting them assured we couldn't spend any more significant money to acquire someone who could help open that window. As we stand now I don't see the window as being more than cracked open just a tad through next season.

You're probably correct on Choo. But we're still going to eat a lot of money if we move him.

As far as Beltre or Moreland, here's several points of concern for me.
  1. You weaken two positions defensively if you move AB to 1st. I'm assuming Gallo would be at 3rd.
  2. We would probably get less offensive output, at least for 2016, if we let Moreland go.
  3. On the other hand, if we keep/pay MM, that's going to be a lot of money, and for a substantial number of years to a player who has traditional had trouble making it through a season without lengthy DL stays.
  4. Plus, if we want or need to let Mitch DH, then we've got a fortune sitting on the bench in Fielder.

Mitch isn't a free agent until after next year and Beltre should be gone by then as well. If Mitch has another good season next year then his health issues of the past may not be an issue any longer. To me though, if you are going to sign someone to play 1B long term anytime within the next couple of seasons I would rather go after Chris Davis.

It would depend on Profar, I think. If he was ready you could move Adrian to 1B and Profar could play 3rd. Then you can see what kind of return MM would bring. I think Gallo is a COF, not a ML 3rd baseman, but who knows. Beltre has had quite a few errors lately and probably continues to have some more going forward. At this stage I just don't see them moving Beltre and you could likely get a little more in return for Mitch. MM probably has a handful more HR's than AB but I don't know how much more production you would get from Mitch. It would depend who is on the field for more games, I guess. Both will definitely miss their share

If I was going to keep anyone between Choo and Fielder I would keep Choo. He is in great shape and his body seems to be holding up to the wear and tear of the season.

I think you find takers for Choo, before you find someone to take the financial obligation for Prince, and his neck that could go south at any time.

True but he has been a big part of what is going on in the 2nd half and hate to try and partially give a guy away who can help you and keep one who probably will not. Hey, it is not my money so I would rather give Fielder away. Besides, how many 1st/DH players do we need on one team.

From what I heard this morning Kazmir has the 3rd best ERA against the Rangers. Right behind Frank Viola and Ron Guidry. Now there are some names from the past.
