Extra points to be abolished?

So let's take the "foot" out of football? I hate this idea but agree the extra point is too automatic.

How about this: keep everything as is but move the line of scrimmage for PATs to the 18 yard line, so you have to make a 35 yard FG for the PAT. Still fairly high percentage, but far from automatic. Teams will be more apt to go for two, especially in bad weather.

How about doing that just in the 4th quarter? Make those soccer players sweat a little bit.

I'm usually a traditionalist so I don't like major changes to sports but the more I think about it, the more I realize the game would benefit from a change to the extra point system. Face it, it's boring as hell now and the extra point might as well be automatic.

I like the idea of the extra point being automatic unless you go for it, giving you either 1 more or penalizing you 1 point for failing. I also like the simpler idea someone mentioned about making the extra point a 40 yard FG. There needs to be some kind of challenge to scoring at all. The extra point as it stands provides essentially no challenge at all.

i'm not sure i like this idea. teams would only make the 7th point about half of the time, which would basically mean an average TD would net 6.5 points, making the 3 points for the field goal even more powerful and I don't want the field goal to become even more important.

I don't mind 6 pts for a TD with no PAT's, but i would keep the 2 pt conversion worth 2 pts. Teams will make it about half the time so over the long run, TD's will still end up counting for about 7 points.

Hmmmmmm...let's see. What would 99.9% of fans do at home if there's another game being shown at the same time?

Stay tuned and wait for them to get lined up to kick the XP.......OR......switch over to the other game while the XP is being kicked??

If the XP is not going tie the game or take the lead late in the 4th, people will switch over to the other game.

That's a good point about TD's in comparison to FG's, yea I agree make it two points.

In addition, I really don't understand why this has to be considered right now. An XP takes 30-40 seconds at most, maybe 5-6 minutes in total over the course of a 3-3.5 hour-long game. Is it really that much of an issue that this warrants serious consideration?

If the ball hits either of the 2 posts in the middle on a FG, it is obviously a good FG.
