Apparently they think they're out if they just let Dwight Howard decide on his own.

I doubt Howard makes a decision today. Honestly the Lakers should have already had a S&T planned out as a backup plan from the get go. This is why you can't trust this management team, they seem inept.

Given the cap space they have in 2014, I have no doubts they'll find a way to fuck that up to hell. I got no faith in Kupchak or Short Buss.......

I'm reading the same thing and if they relent and do a S&T I will be shaking with rage. I'm speechless right now that they can't see that this guy will never produce as long as Kobe's on the team. A ring is not listed anywhere on Dwight's list of priorities. If we can see it, can't they?!

Why would you be against that sign and trade? The Lakers would be getting back two expiring contracts, which still sets them up with a boatload of cap money in 2014. They get a good young wing player, and one of the better shooters in the league on his rookie contact, and you get to add a pick or two in next years draft which has the makings of a great one.

Sounds pretty good to me.

Meanwhile, Adrian Wojnarowski apparently reported that "the Lakers are still prominent in Dwight's mind"!!

Is this crap ever going to end?

Honestly the S&T is better than getting Howard.

Like I said, Lakers current management is inept. I don't think having cap space will even MATTER if these clowns are still running the show.

I had some doubts from the beginning, but also considered the sign and trade as an option from disaster and I am quite sure that the Lakers also knew that. It was still less of a disaster then having to deal with Andrew Bynumb who blew one of his knees out while bowling though

I agree with you on the sign and trade.

Young Buss is a dipshit, but I think Mitch has earned the benefit of the doubt.

The inept part is Short Buss!! Left slone to just do his job, Mitch is just fine as GM!! It's Short Buss's insistence on being overinvolved that causes problems.

It's why Laker fans want him out and Jeannie running things. She is more inclined to run things like her Dad did!!

Really?

Mike Brown. Mike D'antoni. Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Metta.......trading for Howard to begin with putting them 30 mill over the cap. Looking at 100 mill in luxury tax IF they resign Howard for a losing team. NOT trading Howard when they had the chance.

Which of these events has inspired benefit of the doubt? When was the last time he made a decision that was GOOD for the Lakers? He hasn't won out on something for a long time now

Lakers refusing to do a sign and trade is cutting off your nose to spite your face. if he chooses to play somewhere else, isnt something better than nothing? plus if you can get a couple solid pieces like GS is offering, you have to do it.

Lakers managment was bluffing with this move. if they refused a sign and trade they are just stupid. which after the phil jackson/mike d'antoni situation, that may be the case.

Mike Brown and Mike D'Antoni were Short Buss hires. Mitch wanted Brian Shaw when Brown was hired and he wanted Phil when D'Antoni was hired. Nash was brought in as part of the D'Antoni hire.

MWP was a good pickup at the time, but the contract has made it look worse than it really was. Remember, the Lakers won their last ring with MWP on the team.

As for Howard, there isn't a GM in the league that wouldn't have made that trade at the time.

Maybe so, and with the new breed of fans, they will probably capitulate to this 7' bitch and do the s&t, thus exposing their total lack of integrity and character. My love of this team is drawing to an end.

Mike Brown is a fine coach. Not sure why you have an issue with him. D'Antoni by any and all accounts was a Jim Buss decision, Mitch wanted to bring Zen back. Metta helped the Lakers win a title, so I don't know how you can take issue with that. Luxury cap is not an issue for the Lakers.

He's kept the Lakers in title contention for the vast majority of years he's been there, and he's got them set up about as good as you can be next offseason to sign two max guys if they want to. Not sure what your beef is.

you honestly as a fan would like them to draw that line and refuse to move? even if dwight says he is leaving? get nothing in return to cost an ex-player a few bucks down the line? it's bad business on multiple levels. hurting yourself to screw over a former player may not play well in free agency down the line.

I don't see any of those as positive moves. Metta, Gasol, Nash should not be in a Laker uniform next season. And regardless of what you say, luxury tax IS an issue for them. There is not an owner in ANY sport anywhere that wants to pay 100 million in luxury tax for a non-contending team.

If Buss is calling the shots, why does Mitch have a job?

I'm sorry, I don't see positives here. I don't have anything against him personally, I just don't think he's doing a good job. JMO

Why do Howard any favors. Let him sign his max elsewhere and leave 20 million on the table instead of taking expiring contracts and giving up next year. Let him go and sign Bynum back for a year or no center like D'Antoni likes to play anyway.

Lakers made the mistake of hiring D'Antoni without personnel that run his type of outside shooting offense. Howard is nuts to stay with the Lakers with this system that is proven will not win in this league.

They already drew the line. The only thing worse is to now capitulate to this big baby.

And who said anything about "hurting a former player?" It's protecting your own interests!

Realistic Lakers fans wanted the team to start the rebuilding process after the ASG last season and if we had done everything right, we could have been a contender in '14. As it is, the Clippers will continue to be a tougher ticket next season than the Lakers. How can that even be?!

The Lakers won't just swallow their damned pride and admit that D'Antoni is a farce. So, we'll keep losing. Whatever.
