CBS Sports reports that Bogar is the runaway favorite to be named as Rangers manager...from what I've seen so far, I'm on board...but we have to ensure that Maddux stays...

His name really hasn't come up with any other team. I would hope he and Tim would work together.

Lot will determine how Arizona plays and they played horribly against Colorado.

But Colorado also kicked the Dodgers severely in a couple games. They are on a roll at home.

Least we don't have to check Colorado's record anymore. It's just down to us and Az.

Players almost never see beyond the present. I don't expect them to want to lose, but as a fan I certainly want them to lose in this case. The players aren't going to stop and worry about the club's future because they don't know where they will be playing in 3-4 years or in some cases they don't know where they will be in 2 years. They don't have any concerns with who we draft. I do though because I plan on being a Ranger fan for as long as I am alive.

Right. Guys like Rua, Smolinski, Telis , etc are trying to impress and have a shot to make the MLB team next year. The difference in pay and per diem is huge compared to being in the minors.

Alex Rios‘ career with the Rangers could be over. The outfielder has a bruised right thumb, and MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan reports that Rios has decided it would be better to simply not play, since the thumb has not gotten better and risks infection. The Rangers are expected to decline Rios’ $13.5MM option this offseason and pay his $1MM buyout, which means that his next big-league plate appearance could come with another team. In Rios’ absence, Sullivan writes, the Rangers will likely move Shin-Soo Choo from left field to right and spend their savings on pitchers. Here’s more from the American League

Good. Spend that money on pitchers.

Is Tepesch changing anyone's mind about him being in the rotation next year. He has his ERA down to 4.14 now. In his last 9 starts his ERA is 3.29 with a WHIP of 1.26.

Dbacks shouldn't win a game vs the Cards, they should win DFL by a couple games

I just don't want Colby AND Nick in there. I'm starting to think that Colby might be a last resort. I'm not sure he's coming back. Colby asked JD if he was coming back and JD told him "maybe." That's not what you want to hear from your GM.

JD is the one that counts, but even as well as he's pitched I would prefer an upgrade and have him ready at RR when injuries happen to pitchers again next year

So the lowest we can fall is 4th pick? ( Astros have default #2)
Third. It be Texas, Houston then Arizona or Arizona, Houston then Texas. Whoever has the worst record goes first. Right now Colorado would pick fourth.

If you mean if we win the last seven, then who knows. Colorado, Houston (again) would figure in, and others.

Bogar, 47, has been the manager of the year in three different minor leagues and in five different minor-league seasons, he sports a career 362-266 record.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Remember Colby seemed a bit miffed at the start of the year with the number of rehab starts and being at RR to start the season, doesn't seem a lock for him to be back. I'm sure there are teams out there that would make him a fairly decent offer based on the fact he can eat innings and would be a decent addition for clubs without much veteran pitching depth. In the grand scheme it seems he is a guy in the past JD would take a flyer on.

From DMN-Interim manager Tim Bogar said he hopes to get INFs Rougned Odor, Luis Sardinas and Guilder Rodriguez into the starting lineup together during the Houston series. Rodriguez’s father is traveling from Venezuela to see him play. Rodriguez also developed something of a mentor relationship with the two younger infielders when they were together at Double-A Frisco.

Nice touch.

Nice resume. And everywhere he's been the men in charge there speak highly of him.

It was mentioned that it's important to keep Mike Maddux. Not by you, but someone. And I feel he'll move on with a better opportunity.

But frankly, even if he doesn't, if he stays then we'll probably lose BP coach Andy Hawkins and AAA pitching coach Brad Holman. We've got a back log of quality coaches it seems. And these guys aren't going to stay stuck much longer, if at all.

So, I'm all in favor of Maddux moving on, regardless if it wants too or not. Just my opinion.

I agree with ya.

It doesn't seem our starters will be so strong where we wouldn't need a 5th starter, almost regardless of what we do in FA signings.

JD may be thinking of just going younger there, and let Colby move on though.

I am with you on this. Bogar seems to have proved himself in this role in the minors and so far I have no real complaints about his moves. The only manager that has not been a supporter of Bogar is Valentine and that actually gives credence to Bogar as well. Maddux would be an unknown as our manager and I really like him as our pitching coach and just because Bogar was to become the manager does not mean Maddux automatically moves on.

Damn, just saw Rua's homer. He didn't just barely get that pitch either. He knew I was gone as soon as he got it. Let's see a couple more of those before the end of the season.
