NCAA rule would add an ejection for illegal hit - ESPN

The NCAA Football Rules Committee said it had unanimously approved strengthening of the penalty for intentional above-the-shoulder hits. The 15-yard penalty will now have an ejection tacked on, assuming the Playing Rules Oversight Panel approves the plan next month.

This is bad. It's steeped in good intentions, but refs will kick dudes out for perfectly reasonable hits that they deem illegal. We've all seen a guy go in to hit a WR who starts to duck, and it becomes a helmet to helmet collision.......

(1) I wonder if it will make the ref less likely to call an h2h on a star DB, knowing the impact it will have on the game.

(2) Let's face it, a lot of these h2hs are basically accidents, where the offensive player moves in a way so that type of contact is made. If there's going to be this type of radical action, a distinction should be made between h2h and flat-out 'targeting' for that purpose. And it should be reviewable.

If I accidentally made an illegal hit and got ejected, I'd probably punch the shit out of that ref. Might as well get ejected for a good reason.

Like you guys have said, it's just too close to determine whether it was an accident or not. A 15-yard penalty is perfect for an illegal hit, hell make it a 20 yard penalty, but making it an ejection on just ONE illegal hit...that's fucking dumb.
