So I'm encouraging members to give a shout out to any good poster they are acquainted with to move to Sportshoopla. Help make this a even more awesome board! Failure to do so may lead to losing contact with great posters that you wish you could still converse with.

Do it! It's now or never!

ESPN has someone making bad decisions for them... First they changed the entire format of the forums and it sucked.... Then they drop it all together... When you have that kind a fan base and that many people using your forums you don't just shut um down... CRAZY!!!! Someone has lost there mind over at ESPN...

It's inexplicable. They should have never fixed what wasn't broken. On a scale of 1-to-10 I'd say they deserve a big fat zero for how they handled the whole shutdown. For a company who publishes the fact that they do 770M a year on online ad revenue, they blew this one.

I think the trolling just got so out of hand on so many of the boards there and so many complaints were being sent to the mods via flags that they no longer felt it was worth it to keep the boards going. I know that the Seattle boards weren't the only boards that were troll infested and they probably just got tired of it. Of course, if they had gotten a handle on it a lot sooner and not let it get so out of control, they could have avoided shutting the boards down altogether. Now people are just whining about having to use Facebook to make posts over there, which, if ESPN didn't have a setup like this board does to handle trolls, should have been what they did with the team message boards a few years ago to handle trolling.

Who ever was in charge of decisions regrading the forum should be fired and hopefully was. Farming out Mods to a third party was a huge fail on ESPN part. Mods need to be someone who actually cares about the board their watching over and even better cares about the site overall.
How they took a board that function fairly well and then turned into a "robust" board where some boards actually disappeared for a day or two is beyond me. Where load times were horrible and forget about ad blockers if wanted to load the ESPN forum.
ESPN never understood the value of the forums because they were not big revenue producers compared to other parts of ESPN. However a lot of traffic on ESPN originated from the forums. They are going to find that out very soon. Revenue is going to take a big hit IMO.

Good riddance to ESPN, this site is so much better and that is the silver lining in ESPN shutting down IMO.:suds:
