I've been wrong plenty in the padt but I prefer Slater of the two. Of course I won't cry if it's Sewell.

I think it is Sewell by a mile. I like Slater too as well as the kid from VTech and USC. Seems like more good OTs than in prior years as there are a few other guys that look like day 1 starters as well. Works out well for me because I've been calling for an OT as insurance for Smith for a while and ideally if you draft a guy that you can start out as an OG while everyone else is healthy (or move Collins back there) it would really be a great OL for a few years IMO.

I know the knock on Asante Samuel is that he's small for a corner, I really don't care, guy is a baller, sign me up.

I'll take the undersized guy that can play his ass off over the Taco Charlton's of the world any day of the week.

It's finally draft month! And there's been a lot of chatter about the quarterbacks and other offensive playmakers in the 2021 NFL Draft class. But what about the defensive guys?
They've been balling out during their respective pro days, so it's time we give them some love this draft season. Today, we ask our analysts one simple question:
Who is the best defensive player in the 2021 NFL Draft?
DeAngelo Hall: Micah Parsons is the best defensive player. When you watch the way Devin White plays -- and what he means to the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers -- you quickly understand that an impactful three-down linebacker is something you should never overlook. Parsons has the size (6-foot-3, 246 pounds), speed (unofficial 4.39 40-yard dash at his pro day) and playmaking ability of former Defensive Player of the Year Luke Kuechly. This is the best pure, in-the-box linebacker prospect we've seen in years. Honestly, he could be the best pass rusher in a class without a dominant QB hunter -- the Penn State product at least has the physical traits to dominate that aspect of the game.
Marc Ross: Most of the top defensive players in this draft class come with some glaring concerns. But not Patrick Surtain II. He checks all the boxes of a potential perennial Pro Bowler on and off the field: pedigree, physical talent, production and intelligence, just to name a few. It's really hard to identify a legitimate flaw in his game, which sets the Alabama cornerback apart from the rest of the field.

Charley Casserly: Micah Parsons possesses a versatile skill set that would give him top-10 value in any draft. A very instinctive player, he can play all three linebacker spots in a 4-3 defense and inside linebacker in a 3-4. He finds the ball and gets there quickly, while also having the ability to slip blocks inside and the speed to make plays to the outside. He could have some trouble shedding blockers when engaged with an offensive lineman, and will operate best when he plays behind the defensive line. Parsons shows the speed to come off the edge as a pass rusher and effective blitzer. In coverage, he's a very good reactor in zone defense and looks as if he'll be able to mirror running backs and tight ends. The future is bright!

Maurice Jones-Drew: This might not be the most popular pick, but it's the right one. The best defensive guy in this draft class is Oregon safety Jevon Holland. He's a versatile talent who can play cornerback, nickel, safety and sub linebacker, and there's a good chance he has the best ball skills in the draft. Holland is big, fast, strong and agile, everything you need to lay the booooom but also secure the tackle at safety. With the emergence of dominant tight ends around the league, a player like Holland has a ton of value.
Brian Baldinger: I believe Patrick Surtain II is the best defensive player going into the draft. He has a great deal of experience after playing three years at 'Bama against the best competition every Saturday. Not to mention, he practiced daily against a fleet of top receivers (DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle in this draft class, as well as 2020 first-rounders Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy), honing both his man-to-man skills and zone principals. Surtain was coached by his father, who had his own 11-year NFL career, before playing under the best defensive back coach in the country in Nick Saban. That's why he is clean, skilled and ready to immediately upgrade an NFL team's secondary on Day 1.
Joe Thomas: Micah Parsons doesn't think there's a player like him in this year's draft class. He's right! The versatile linebacker put it all on display during Penn State's pro day (and in weekly game film) and proved he's the type of defender who can create game-changing plays -- a huge positive for NFL defenses. There are other talented defensive guys out there, but none as good as Parsons.

You gotta love when these players want to wear the star even though they've never seen a great Cowboy team. The brand still sells. Makes you hope the team may have a guy a little higher on their board when you read that

I like Paris ford iwith one of the 4th round picks. He is smaller,but I just like the borderline arrogance ,confidence. He brings.

I got Horn high on my list. Desirable players for me at 10 are Sewell,Slater, Horn,Surtain and Pitts . All 5 would be immediate starters .

Slater,Sewell and Pitts are probably better.overall players though. Sewell or Slater just look like guys that would immediately upgrade the OL at LG and either could move out to tackle if Smith and or Collins get hurt.. I think if one of them is there they likely go that route. Got to Protect Dak at all costs.

if they are all that is there when we draft then yes but if more are there especially in areas of need then i go with the bigger need. there are are good OL that will be present in the middle rounds that would and will good additions. how about Carman OT, Drake Jackson OC and Deonte Brown OG

There are good players at every position available after the first round. For example, I think the value at DB could be there with our 2nd pick. It's part of why I am so against forcing a position at #10 (that and it's just a stupid strategy to chase a need). Give me a star at #10 and fill out the roster with the next 3 picks and I'll be over the moon. OT, TE, WR, LB, CB, DL...I don't care what position it is other than QB. Take the stud on the board and it will work out. It's not like this team is likely winning a SB next year regardless of how we draft.

I am usually against drafting a TE or LB in the 1st round (early 1st at least) Unless we think they are a generational player. I would actually hate it. We draft them every year. This is what I came up with for the top 20. Not how I think the draft will go because I think 5 QBs go in the top 9 picks, but more like a "Big Board" for me. Subject to change of course and all subjective and opinion based based on the games I saw (which certainly wasn't all of them) and some videos I watched and writeups I've seen. For me, the further you go down the more it becomes more like a group than a ranking and there were a couple more OL and Edge types I wanted to include but I couldn't really decide between them so I just left them off. They'd probably fill out most of my next 5:

I am usually against drafting a TE or LB in the 1st round (early 1st at least) Unless we think they are a generational player. I would actually hate it. We draft them every year. I think the last time I was open to drafting a LB in the 1st was Patrick Willis. Honestly can't think of a time I wanted a TE in the 1st.

I don't go by position as much as player. Give me a great TE prospect like Pitts over a decent OL or DL prospect any day. Each player stands on his own.

if Pitts is a generational player. I'd be fine with it. Just often proven a disappointment through draft history. Which shouldnt be completely ignored.

I'm not sure how you can plot it out like that, especially the later rounds. You have no clue who will be there that we like in those rounds when we pick.

I love that kid. Think he is the new style safety we see now making an impact in the league. I would take him in a second. Also like Richie Grant. Think both are first round talents but wouldn't be surprised if both are there

BPA...Now you're talking.
It's a beautiful thing when BPA and need intersect and with our crappy play on all 3 levels on defense, basically any defensive player in the draft fills a need and DB for sure.
