I agree with Edmonton staying away from the RFA route, but Shea Weber is a whole HELL of a lot better than either Penner or Vanek.

He's 25 years old, is IMO the best all-around defender in the game, and is just entering his prime. Getting Weber means that you have one of the 5 best defensemen in the game for the next 10 years.

i think the top end of the second tier RFA compensation for last year was around 7.7 million (Two First-round choices, a second-rounder and a third-rounder.)

Edm would have their young talent already drafted at forward

Hmmm it seems he's trashing his own team here. If the Hawks beat the Canucks, then the earliest they can pick is 23rd. If they lose in the 1st round I believe they pick anywhere from 15th to 18th, depending on what the teams in the east with fewer points do.
