I believe Nolan has been screwed over by the league. I doubt any team would hire him. I don't know what happened but it's unfortunate. Ted is a very good coach & I wish him well.

I recall he sold out his GM in Buffalo (or tried to go over his head to the owners or something). thought he was basically blacklisted for that.
didn't help his cause when he played the race card and after that.

could be wrong, but that was my perception.

I thought it was he went right above John Mucklers head to the owner about the teams direction and that he would make a better GM?

but then I also heard he tried to sleep with Haseks wife.......

ah the rumours

I know two things.

When the Islanders hired him as their head coach their were a lot of people scratching their heads in disbelief. I don't know why so many people involved in the good ole boy network of the NHL believe Muckler was such a great coach or GM. In terms of coaching he was one of the luckiest people in hockey. He was given the Oilers job. He couldn't lose with that team.

Once the Islanders let Nolan go that was it. You could tell he knew this was his last shot.

You're probably right.

However the playoffs are still a lot of fun to watch. I know this experience is very new to you & all Devils fans, but depending on who the new coach is your team will probably be in the playoffs next year. I really wouldn't be surprised if Larry Robinson gets the job.

BOOM, i thought of this the night the season ended, part of me half expects it. he's very good with kids, holds the players accountalbe while walking the fine line of still being friendly with his players. not friends, but friendly.

and yeah, i mean this is probably more exciting to us than it should be, its nuts, i really cant describe how much i'm looking forward to the draft....
i say this with all do respect bolts, your team has picked low most of thepast 5 years.

having seen those draft years, how often have you come out of it with either the player you realistically wanted, and/or a player you're very excited about once they drafted him?

ever disappointed?

i know some of these sound like stupid questions, almost like asking someone what to expect the first time you get laid :charlie: but hey shit, this is new to us devils fans

At # 4, you really can't go wrong in this draft.... especially as it's such a bonus pick for you guys.
I'd approach it as the 2 or 3 that'll be gone of your top list, and you'll still get a very good player out of the the 2 or 3 that will will be left.

fortunately my team hasn't had many early picks in recent years, but I sure remember the years that we did.
including the draft that was IN Vancouver in 1990, where we had #2. There were 5 can't miss prospects to choose from.
Owen Nolan went #1, and we picked the ONLY guy I didn't want next Petr fucking Nedved.
I was sure we were going to take Keith Primeau (and so was he, apparently) or Jammy Jagr. Ricci was the other of the top 5. I still have that draft program somewhere.
Petr fucking Nedved :L

the year that we got decent lottery results (#10 in 2005), we picked Luc Bourdon (RIP), and I wanted us to take Anze Kopitar. This kings did with the next pick. But they could afford to take more risk than we could - that was the year the Kings had 4 of the first 70 picks or something, and Kopitar hadn't yet committed to coming over to the NHL.

the only other time I can remember being anxious about a pick was #10 in 2008. It was either Cody Hodgson or the talented headcase Kyle Beach. There was some talk we'd take Beach because he played a tougher game and was a local product. thankfully, we got Cody. Chicago took Beach next, and he's fizzled in the AHL.

I really think you'll see us taking 1 of Larsson couturier or huberdeau, maybe a long shot on Murphy if Lou is desperate for that puck moving d man. I'm extremely excited because the fact is there is a good chance were getting a a high caliber player, which I believe is above and beyond what we need, I've said before its almost unfair in a way that well be picking this high, not that I think were THAT good but they certainly proved capable enough thatvwe don't need a luck this high, its certaunly a luxury

The Devils will be getting a good player at #4. I think Larsson and RNH will be gone for sure by then but after that I could see the Devils potentially getting anyone else.

Hey Kenny, I'm guessng you live in Ottawa or very close to it. If so, then you may want to take a brief road trip on Sunday to Gatineau to check out Sean Couturier when his Drummondville Voltigeurs play the Gatineau Olympiques in game 6 of that series. There series is currently tied 2-2 so there is sure to be a Game 6. Game 5 is tonight in Drummondville.

I'd love to but I don't live anywhere near Ottawa anymore.

The more I think about it, the happier I'd be getting Couturier in the draft though. I think he'll be a pleasant hybrid between Eric and Jordan Staal.

In 2008 I expected the the trade down. However I was hoping for Boedker who went to Phoenix.

In 2009 Tavares was a no brainer at 1. At 12 I was hoping for Kassian. Don't know whether he's going to pan out or not. I like the way he plays, but I guess he disappears sometimes.

Last year I was totally in the Cam Fowler camp. I was hoping he was going to be the pick. Boy was I wrong. He fell to 12. I actually feel a bit better about it knowing the Snow apparently did attempt to trade up & take him. I guess the price was to high or he couldn't find a trade partner. Nino is going to be a STUD so it's all good.

I remember awhile ago the Devils picked 3rd & the Islanders 4th. Lou took a puck moving Defenseman named Scott Niedermayer. The Islanders took Scott LaChance. That didn't go very well. I'm hoping it works out better this time.

If Larsson falls do you think Lou will take him? Does he trade down or just take the best forward on the board & let Larsson fall to 5.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Larsson fell to 6.

Look at the 1990 draft this way. At least your team didn't draft Scott Scissons.:L

Sorry to hear about your dad. Other than that, that is awesome! Jurco's my favourite on the team. I'm very anxious to see who picks him and in which round. He'll most likely go late 1st or early 2nd which means just about any team is a possibility.

You're not the only fan of a Canadian team that frequents this board regularly that is unhappy with their 1990 draft selection.

I'm just KIDDing with you Dash. ;)

Well just a few years after that the AHL Flames landed here and stuck around for a decade. So any poor drafting or trading they did in the 90s (including 1990) was my problem too. Hindsight is always 20/20. I'm sure there were a few teams that wish they had taken Brodeur instead of whoever they did take. As far as I know Calgary was the only one to take another goalie before him though.

At least Trevor Kidd played in the league.

I can't remember the draft year I think it was 1993. Anyway I remember the Flames made a trade with another team because they both wanted the same player. That player was Jesper Mattson. Anyone know what happened to him?

I just googled him. It seems he spent 3 seasons here playing for the AHL Flames. I guess the name sort of sounds familiar. Most of his career was spent in the Swedish Elite League. And you're right. It was 1993.
