One thing going for us is that even a generally bad drafting organization like the Giants have been, even they can get lucky and get a very big star just by random odds. :noidea: :brick:
The org has a history (of the last20 years, at least) of recognizing SOLID amateur pitchers. But it has been generation after generation of bottom of the league drafting of position players that plagues us. Of course we will hit on the Belts and Crawfords, and the apologist will say “See, we know what we are doing!” but a small handful of hits over the DECADES does not nullify the clear pattern.

And I am not counting Matt Williams (3), Will Clark (2) or Buster Posey (5). When you draft that high, you SHOULD be hitting more often than not. And we still have Joey Bart on that ledger, anyway…

Who did we get for Bart and if he is staying a hottish as he was a month or so ago could that be one the Giants and fans regret in the future? :noidea:

Have you actually seen him? I have not. But, like you, I am super excited about him. I would compare my excite for him to the excitement I had for ToJo and Belt (meaning VERY excited).

But until he actually shows up, he is nothing. I learned from Alderson. I learned from Villalona. I learned from Cabrera. I learned from Fox (all sizzle, no fire, there - he is already out of baseball).
Bednar, Bishop, Bickford, Shaw, Arroyo, Brown, Copeland, Esteve, Bonser, Ainsworth, Torcato, Grilli....

We will see what happens with him in the future. The Giants did not want to go into a season where they were planning on competing with a rookie(ish) backup catcher who had not shown much, if anything, at the MLB level. They made the decision that he was nit of enough value to lock up a roster spot, and brought in a vet catcher to BU Bailey instead.

You can argue that was a mistake, but I personally understand the logic at the time. I have a hard time faulting the Giants for that.

That's great! Hope he continues to scorch the ball there! He'll very likely start 2025 in AA and, if he does well there, could be in Sacramento by June 2025. He does well after his promotion, he could in be in SF by August 2025.

Kid seems very close. While I think expecting him in SF in ‘25 is extremely aggressive, it is certainly possible, at least if just for a cuppo. 1B should be his, come ‘26.

Unfortunately, that means we have to struggle another year of Wade’s injuries and maybe Canha, but I am OK with that.

Sabin Ceballos (Eugene) is slashing .300/.365/.545 (149 wRC+) with 6 HR, 28 RBI, and 23 R in 126 plate appearances since being acquired in the trade that sent Jorge Soler to Atlanta. This includes a 10.3 % BB rate, 23.8% K rate, and .245 ISO.

Eldridge went 3-4 today with a solo homer (his 1st in AA)

He's now hitting .300 in limited at bats.

He also had a stolen base. I guess at that height, 3 maybe 4 steps is all you need to get to 2nd!
Its REALLY hard to not hope he's up next year...early.

Belt wasn’t a base stealer, but he wasn’t a bad base runner, and for his size, he had decent speed. Eldridge may be similar.
