At this point, do any regs have a guess as to who may be considered for September call-ups? I know it's a bit premature, but thanks to these reports, there seems to be quite a few guys that have shown a little something to warrant a look.

I think Cal posted something about this recently, and I am too lazy to look it up. Here's my list of possibles:

Probables
Ryan Lollis (of)
Juan Perez (of)
Jarrett Parker (of)
Chris Stratton (sp-r)
Mike Broadway (rp-r)
Steve Okert (rp-l)

Possibles
Ty Blach (sp-L)
Clayton Blackburn (sp-R)
Curtis Partch (s[/rp-r)
Everth Cabrera (ss)
Hunter Cole (of-AA)
Austin Slater (2b-AA)
Mac WImmiamson (of)

StrTton is not currently on the 40-man. This is not an issue on the surface, because there are currently only 39 on the 40. However, to add anyone from your "possibles" list, an additional 40-slot would need to be made available.

One could be done by transferring Huddy to the 60-day DL (and he seems to be very open to that sort of move). But past that? I would like to see Timmeh take the bump one last time at AT&T, but only in a game that doesn't matter, so early September does not work. Past these, I do not see any DFA-able players on the 40.

Therefore, I only expect one non-roster player to be added for the stretch. Will that be Stratton? Frandsen? Cabrera? Blackburn? If Leake's hammy becomes nagging and/or Cain continues to suck, I think they will be forced to add a starter. Who they figure is the best, I have no clue. If we continue to have 4 good/decent starters, than I think they will go with their choice of Frandsen/Cabrera (I suspect Frandsen wins that one).

As for guys currently on the 40, not counting DL activations, I expect only Gregorio and Carbonell to be bypassed.

Tuesday, 8/11

Sorry for the delay. I went to the Reno Aces game against the Salt Lake City Bees. Good pitching game. Went with a friend who is an autograph seeker.

Sacramento won 9-4 with 9 runs in the 7th-8th-9th
Darren Ford 2-5, run, 4 RBI, homer
Kevin Frandsen 2-3, run, 2 RBI, homer
Jarrett Parker 2-5
Everth Cabrera 1-4, run, RBI, double (.250)
Nik Turley 5-3-4-4-3-3 (5.02)
Jake Dunning (W, 3-1) 3-1-0-0-0-1 (5.01)
Clay Rapada 1-0-0-0-0-1 (3.57)

Jake Dunning (3-1, 5.01) made his first appearance with the River Cats since June 7 Tuesday night. Dunning looked very strong out of the bullpen, pitching 3 shutout innings of relief while allowing 1 hit and striking out one. The win was Turley's first at the Triple-A level since May 4 (at Reno).

Kevin Frandsen had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBIs, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Frandsen has now reached base safely 19 consecutive games.

Richmond lost 5-1
Myles Schroder 2-4, run
Austin Slater 2-4, RBI, double
Matt Gage (L, 2-2) 5.1-5-5-5-2-8 (3.18)

LHP Matt Gage (2-2) made his fifth Double-A start for Richmond and breezed through the difficult Bowie lineup and retired the side in order in the first three innings. He finally let up his first hit, which was a double to left center field in the bottom of the fourth to Trey Mancini. This first pressure situation did not faze Gage as he recorded his sixth strikeout to escape the fourth frame. The left-hander finished with eight strikeouts, a Double-A season-high. He lasted 5.1 innings and allowed the five runs on five hits in the loss.

San Jose lost 6-4 in 11 innings
Daniel Carbonell 1-6, run, RBI, solo homer
Christian Arroyo 3-5, run, RBI, double, homer
Andrew Susac 1-4
Brandon Bednar 2-5, double
Luis Ysla 6-7-4-4-3-6 (5.76)
Ray Black 1-0-0-0-0-3 (3.00)
Tyler Rogers 2-1-0-0-0-3 (1.52)
Jake Smith (L, 4-4) 2-4-2-2-0-3 (2.51)

Notes:
* The Giants have lost their last five extra-inning games - all in the last 14 days.
* San Jose is 9-11 in extra-inning games this season. The 20 extra-inning contests lead the California League and are second-most in all of Minor League Baseball.
* The Giants fell to 3-14 against Visalia this season.
* Visalia out-hit San Jose 12-9. The Giants were 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
* San Jose lost for just the third time in their last 16 home games.
* Susac finished 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout in the first game of his rehabilitation assignment. He started at DH and hit third in the batting order.
* Third baseman Ryder Jones (quad strain) was placed on the 7-day disabled list before the game retroactive to August 7.

Now THAT is a batting line. Is Carbonell the next Nick Lowery?

A 6 for 1 day will certainly do wonders for your batting average...

He's making up for lost time. I fixed if for you, grumble, grumble, grumble.....

Good to see someone is reading these closely. Perhaps I will find some time to do a post on how the top prospects do each day.

To me, it seems that there are a few intriguing minor league pitchers worth watching. I do wish the Giants would do a bit of shuffling in their minor league system to allow some of these guys to move up a level for the last half month of the season to see how they do there. This is what I'd like to see happen:
Sacramento
Release Tommy Hanson and Nik Turley. Neither are doing well and have no future with the big league club.
Bring up Joe Biagini and Kelvin Marte to replace them in the starting rotation.
Richmond
Release Braulio Lara. Another minor league vet with no future and with little success at two levels.
Bring Tyler Rogers back up to replace Lara. Also bring up Jacob Smith and Chase Johnson. Richmond currently has 6 or 7 starters on the roster so this would help ease the logjam.
San Jose
Bring up Dusten Knight and Carlos Diaz for the bullpen and Mark Reyes for the starting rotation.
Augusta
See if Andrew Suarez can handle low A ball to determine where he lands in 2016. Also bring up Ryan Halstead and Caleb Smith.

The prob with those ideas is that that is not really how the Giants work. They like to let guys get comfortable at this point in the year, and they like to allow their teams that have made the playoffs keep their rosters together to get trophies. I have no idea what the playoff pictures look like for the affiliates, though.

As fur Suarez, he has only been a pro for a few months. They are not going to push him THIS YEAR. IIRC, he is also just about a year or so removed from TJS.

While it is typical, I do vaguely remember the Giants moving two or three guys up from San Jose and Augusta to Richmond for the playoffs (want to say it was Tyler Horan, Tyler Rogers and Daniel Slania). I don't remember if it was a matter that they needed some players or if they just wanted to give some players added experience at a new level.

Sacramento is 14.5 games from Fresno in their division. Richmond is 7 games back from Bowie. San Jose is 13 games back but in the running for the wild card. Augusta is 9 games back from Savannah.
