For years, those who follow college football have watched offenses shift toward more mobile QB play, as opposed to mostly pocket-passers.

Last night, we saw a mobile QB see considerable success against Denver. Granted, Seattle had a very good defense, but had the Broncos had a more mobile QB, would it have made a significant difference for them?

More to the point, could we see the supremacy of the pocket-passer coming to a close in the NFL over the next several years?

I don't think of RW as a scrambler. Yes he can scramble or run if he wants, but so could Steve Young. With the limited time the SEA defense was giving Manning, I'm not sure anyone would have found success. The WR's didn't want to run across the middle even, nor could they get off the jam at the line.

The only thing that changed is there will probably be a bit of a premium placed on stud defensive players in this draft. Clinton-Dix probably just moved up a few spots.

the other QB in the SB was one of the greatest pocket passers ever. There will be no trend going the other way on a majority basis.

Um, the trend has been moving that way for awhile.

Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, RG3, Kaepernick, Wilson.

The pocket passer isn't dead but mobility is a huge asset

I think as mobile QBs become more common place defenses will get lighter and faster then larger stronger O Line men will man handle defensive players and the pocket passer will rebound. I guess in the end the evolution of the game dictates change on both side of the ball.

trends are just that..trends. all the 20 somethings want to believe its all about QBs that run around like Vick wannabe's but it wont happen.

Your list assumes too much to begin with..Kaep was the only one to do it on purpose more or less and RG3 may just suck when he comes back for all you know. Luck may be young and move around but he is a pocket passer. That's another thing... unless you learn to be a pocket passer you wont last long in the league anyway. The majority will always be pocket passers.

there will never be a time in the league where half of them are running QBs and if there were 13 of 16

would suck anyway.

There will always be a place for a good pocket passer, but if you could get a guy who can run, too, why wouldn't you?

I dont see many statuesque QBs coming out of school in the near future.

The modern salary cap era has certainly been all about adjustments.

-The Greatest Show on Turf had a great offense. Teams adjusted by playing cover 2 and being physical with DBs
-Tampa 2 had a great defense. Teams adjusted by investing in WRs and throwing deep down the middle.
-Peyton had a great offense with the Colts. Teams adjusted by playing physical with DBs and throwing the timing routes off
-New England had a great defense and the NFL started enforcing the rules with DBs
-New England (and others) had a great offense with athletic TEs and teams started investing in athletic linebackers
-Elite QBs spread everyone out and rack up the yards. Teams start investing in Dlineman
-Mobile QBs came into the league and it further pushes the previous trend
-Seattle comes in and dominates with their secondary so I'm sure the next move is for teams to invest in olinemen and physical WRs (this trend has been going on for awhile, though)

The moral of the story? Get a good coach, draft well, have a plan. If you get good enough, eventually you'll shape the meta of the league but if you're deep enough then it won't matter

then you wont see many good QBs either. There will be plenty of pocket passers.

no, Rodgers is a pocket passer who can dance in the pocket and roll out but we are talking about Vick, Kaepernick types.

plus it doesn't matter..you cant be a successful 10 year QB if you depend on your legs.

Vick was great for highlights but it never got him the prize in the post season.

unless Kaep learns how to actually be a QB, he'll be an afterthought soon enough

Umm, you can be a pocket passer and not be a statue. Many of the kids coming out are just that. College coaches prefer it that way, that's what's coming down the pipe to the NFL.

Nobody is saying that QBs that run better than they throw are going to take over. Just that the mobility asset is more valuable than ever and almost every young gun possesses it.

that's not a positive..if its something you need it means your team sucks at pass blocking.

colleges try to run spread options=that's why they get mobile QBs..that wont work well long term in the pro's.

that's not accuracy by you, that's just more internet bravado.

Marino would qualify in your unimportant made up category though, but not Manning

Most losses in the playoffs by a quarterback is not made up.

If anything we'll see more emphasis on defense by coaches and GMs.
