James Mirtle @mirtle
Was told that six teams would receive huge chunk of rev share under NHLPA system: Phoenix, NY Isles, Columbus, Florida, Nashville, Carolina
Something must be going or they wouldn't be meeting this many days in a row.
Deal by the end of the weekend?

That would be sweet, but I think they're still too far apart. Deal maybe by Thanksgiving and season starts December 1st (probably could still squeeze in 70 games if the All-Star game is cancelled (sorry Columbus).
is the deal signed yet?
no?
Ill check back later.
What you said makes perfect sense. However coupled with the fact that many(read most) of the deals signed this summer were contingent on a salary rollback it just goes to show how some ownership groups are comfortable operating using other peoples money. I don't doubt the ownership group of the coyotes will all recieve money individually over the next few years despite what the franchise posts as loses. Also there is that whole "creative accounting" thing going on all over the league now.
I guess since the Weber situation directs affects MY team I'm more pissed about it. Then again I'm not a big fan of the offer sheet system the way it is. I'd much rather see offer sheeting a player have a higher cost to the team who makes the offer and if their current team matches the player has final say over where wind up playing. So I guess I'm not a fan of the whole RFA status but I'm sure it's in pace to keep contract values down.
There's no way any team is going to give a RFA player the right to say he wants to play for a particular team after signing an offersheet then having his original team match it. The player will get his money no matter what in that situation. The player will hit the free agent market eventually, at that time he can choose where he wants to play.
Today, we met with the NHL off and on over several hours. A number of matters were discussed, including our proposal for a new pension plan, revenue sharing, the players’ share and salary cap issues, and the owners’ “make whole” concept. Present today were Chris Campoli, Mathieu Darche,Ron Hainsey, Johan Hedberg, Manny Malhotra, and Kevin Westgarth (David Backes was present for part of the day), as well as Mathieu Schneider, Joe Reekie, Steve Webb and Rob Zamuner.
I fully understand that. I'm looking at things from a players perspective though. I just think the Weber situation particularly sucks because I have no doubt that Nashville's ownership matched partially based off expecting a salary rollback or a large chunk of the revenue share pie(the other part is that Weber is an absolute beast and the heart of that team). In my eyes operating under that principle is just as bad as the ridiculous front loaded deals. There is just so much contradiction in what the owners are saying comparatively to what they are regularly doing.
i.e. Nashville crying poor and signing one of the largest monetary value contracts of the summer.
