For awhile I was ok, but I'm really jonesing, especially after getting a taste of live hockey with the OHL/Russia game lastnight. I found myself looking for players the Mets should sign and trade and what their roster will be like in 2 years. I can't be doing this until the spring. And Colts/Jags on Thursday night just isn't cutting it.

Something must be going or they wouldn't be meeting this many days in a row.

Deal by the end of the weekend?

Was told that six teams would receive huge chunk of rev share under NHLPA system: Phoenix, NY Isles, Columbus, Florida, Nashville, Carolina

You know...

I have to give the Jackets credit if this comes about. They fought on that "losing money" lie so long, it has borne fruit it seems.

Working the system pays off, I guess.

Now if they only had a superstar to pay that money to...

They could all just be playing gin rummy to get the media off their collective backs for a while, I hope this isn't the case though.

That would be sweet, but I think they're still too far apart. Deal maybe by Thanksgiving and season starts December 1st (probably could still squeeze in 70 games if the All-Star game is cancelled (sorry Columbus).

Well, if the rest of the teams are just handing money over that stings a lot less.

And you know the league will put it here in two years anyway.

anyways.

In addition to the ongoing issues of revenue sharing and the league’s “Make Whole” idea, the NHLPA has concerns about the NHL’s stance on contract length, unrestricted free agent eligibility and arbitration processes — issues that “significantly reduce a player’s bargaining power and give the owner much more leverage over a player for most if not all of his career.”

Here is Fehr’s letter, in full:

Today, we met with the NHL off and on over several hours. A number of matters were discussed, including our proposal for a new pension plan, revenue sharing, the players’ share and salary cap issues, and the owners’ “make whole” concept. Present today were Chris Campoli, Mathieu Darche,Ron Hainsey, Johan Hedberg, Manny Malhotra, and Kevin Westgarth (David Backes was present for part of the day), as well as Mathieu Schneider, Joe Reekie, Steve Webb and Rob Zamuner.

No new proposals were exchanged on pension issues, but we will discuss this issue again tomorrow (Friday). We did receive a proposal on revenue sharing in response to the proposal we made this week, but this subject still needs considerable work.

What you said makes perfect sense. However coupled with the fact that many(read most) of the deals signed this summer were contingent on a salary rollback it just goes to show how some ownership groups are comfortable operating using other peoples money. I don't doubt the ownership group of the coyotes will all recieve money individually over the next few years despite what the franchise posts as loses. Also there is that whole "creative accounting" thing going on all over the league now.

I guess since the Weber situation directs affects MY team I'm more pissed about it. Then again I'm not a big fan of the offer sheet system the way it is. I'd much rather see offer sheeting a player have a higher cost to the team who makes the offer and if their current team matches the player has final say over where wind up playing. So I guess I'm not a fan of the whole RFA status but I'm sure it's in pace to keep contract values down.

There's no way any team is going to give a RFA player the right to say he wants to play for a particular team after signing an offersheet then having his original team match it. The player will get his money no matter what in that situation. The player will hit the free agent market eventually, at that time he can choose where he wants to play.

I fully understand that. I'm looking at things from a players perspective though. I just think the Weber situation particularly sucks because I have no doubt that Nashville's ownership matched partially based off expecting a salary rollback or a large chunk of the revenue share pie(the other part is that Weber is an absolute beast and the heart of that team). In my eyes operating under that principle is just as bad as the ridiculous front loaded deals. There is just so much contradiction in what the owners are saying comparatively to what they are regularly doing.

i.e. Nashville crying poor and signing one of the largest monetary value contracts of the summer.

So basically David Backes and a bunch of guys who will be lucky to NHL jobs in 12 months were in attendance?

Good job.

The Flyers have raided Nashville every since the team exsisted. It's a joke. The Flyers got Hartnell & Timmonen for scraps. The Predators lost Suter, they weren't about to let Weber go. Their ownership said they were willing to spend to the cap ceiling. They had every right to match the contract. If the Flyers wanted Weber so bad they shouldn't have made it clear in the contract that Weber couldn't be traded in year 1. The day I feel sorry for the Flyers will NEVER come.:D:
