Just like the last few months, I expect them to do absolutely nothing.

In fact I wouldn't even blink if both sides stood up at the podium and simultaneously put up their middle fingers and walked off the stage.

:pizza: :pizza:

This is how I feel. I don't believe either side gives a damn about the fans. I'm done for awhile giving these jerks any of my money. I hope when they actually come back they play in empty buildings throughout the United States. I know the 7 Canadian teams will sellout every home game no matter what.

I hate that argument. There isn't some objective measure of what is a fair bargain. Similarly, wouldn't billions of underpaid third-world workers collectively roar with laughter at middle-class North Americans teachers, doctors, auto-workers, etc... who went on strike for their rights?

On topic, it's clear to me a deal is coming. The NHL has finally realized that the players are united behind Fehr, and aren't going to crack. The irony is, I bet the owners could have gotten an even better deal if they weren't such jackasses back in October. I think those initial offers really pissed the union off, and that they've been behind Fehr 100% ever since.

By the way, Fehr comes out of this looking like a genius. He kept his cool, never walked away from negotiations, and patiently waited it out while Bettman and co. kept storming out like children, only to come back later with a sweetened deal. I know Fehr isn't popular, but he took every cheap shot the NHL tried to throw at him and brushed it off.

Quite a few have said that the union should have just taken the early December deal, and that this delay will cost more in lost salary than it gains in negotiation rights. I think that overlooks the bigger picture. The NHL tried to break the union and threatened to cancel the season. The union called their bluff, and comes out looking like winners. That will be important next time around.

Let's just hope Bettman and Fehr aren't around for the next time...

/Not that I want any harm to come to either of them, just retired and out of the picture.

//okay, maybe a little harm to Bettman :heh:

Did I hear right, if there is an abbreviated season, they're basically going to be all conference games?

Once again the media has led the remaining fans down the rabbit hole again. There was such hope, talk of who was going to play who, the schedules, etc. and now talk of decertification of interest is greater than any other talk. Awesome.

@bruce_arthur
League claims disclaimer ends season. Players have 20 minutes to file it (this time). My, this is all getting very dramatic.

I don't fully understand the semantics of decertification.

i found todays reports totally confusing and conflicting. they seemed disinterested (no pun intended) and were clowning around most of it. this lockout has reduced to the media to an even more unprofessional level than I have ever seen and it wasnt high before. i didnt get one ounce of hope out of anything said I still dont know what the fuck came out of todays meetings. I just want it cancelled. I dont want a 48 game season I want a full cancellation.

They're just ticking me off at this point. They're essentially a group of privileged fanboys with no integrity for the sport. In fact, right now, all the pros are in Russia. Now Eklund (I know, I know) is going on about how decert wouldn't end the season, just set the process back. Does he REALIZE that the drop dead date is within a few weeks?

11th, right? For some reason 19th ran through my head, but that may be the season start date if a deal is reached.

yeah 11th is deadline 19th is when they would start if they got it done by then. but what is it 9 mins to the NHLPA deadline to decertify? Im actually starting to dislike the NHL with real feelings. not just frustrated at whats happening but at the overall lack of respect for us fans.
